President Obama told guests at the White Houses annual Iftar dinner tonight that further escalation in the Middle East benefits no one, least of all the Israeli and the Palestinian people.
Faced with criticism from some Arab and Muslim activists who think he has been too friendly toward the Israeli side, Obama addressed the conflict near the end of his comments, which largely honored the traditions of one of the worlds great faiths.
For all of us, whatever our faiths, Ramadan is a reminder of just how much we share. The values of peace and charity, the importance of family and community these are universal values. The command to love one another, to uphold justice, and to care for the least among us these are common threads in our faith traditions, Obama said.
In Islam, there is a hadith that says God helps the servant as long as the servant helps his brother. In other words, were summoned to serve and lift up one another, and thats the lesson of several of our guests here tonight.
Guests included Muslim Reps. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) and Andre Carson (D-Ind.), as well as Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.). Ambassadors from Arab and Muslim-majority countries were also invited.
The pictures we are seeing in Gaza and Israel are heart-wrenching. People here in the United States care deeply about whats happening there, and I know there are strong views, as well as differences, about how we should move forward, which is part of American democracy. We welcome that debate. That makes us stronger, Obama said.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
just look what’s happened to “our” government!
alas
alas
pray for America!
When will we wake up and kick this traitor out of office?
Quite frankly, I want the war to continue a little while longer. Hopefully Israel can take out more of their weapons and pound their mobsters... er...’leaders’ more.
You might get your wish if Hamas acts real stupid and rejects the terms ... :-) ...
Kill more Hamas and Hezabilla!
Don’t believe everything you read. The realists (conservatives/right wing) are resolutely opposed to the cease fire proposal. The author of that piece, Avi Issacharoff, in my opinion is trying to make the conservatives want something that they oppose by pretending it is not wanted by Hamas.
Think briar patch.

oh dear he still says this as his brother is dirt poor in Africa.
We’ll find out if that’s the case in a relatively few hours ... :-) ...
Funny....I find it heart wrenching whenever Obama opens his mouth...or when someone refers to him as President.
What a freighter full of crap that is.
“Ramadan is a reminder of just how much we share.”
Obama hasn’t yet brought himself to understand that the world’s Arabs are perfectly willing to share the globe - provided all the rest of us either disappear or die.
Obama is a Muslim..of course he hates Israel..even the supposed “Moderate” Muslims..the moment something happens their Jew hate comes out flowing..no one in Israel supports Obama except the far lefties..everyone else figured Obama out from day 1
Hey Dog Eater!
