I admire them (and you, for raising great kids). As for the Scriptural angle, I don’t think that what you say is inconsistent with what I said. Yes, God’s creation is great and worthy of study. That does not mean, however, that every detail of Scripture understood at the most superficial level must be “proven” (or even capable of being “proven”) by the scientific method in order for the detail to be defended. Often such details are included for the purpose of presenting a greater Truth about God, and are true insofar as they do that. God EQUALS truth.

I agree with you. My favorite passage regarding our knowledge of God’s creation is Job 38 which begins:

The Lord Speaks
38 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:

2 “Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone—
7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels[a] shouted for joy?

Whenever creationists or evolutionists are confident in their understanding of how they think the world was and is, I recall God’s questions to Job and reflect on the arrogance we have to believe we understand anything about this world. Yes, we attempt to fathom some of what we can perceive but the above passage makes it clear to me that man is not capable of fully understanding the creation.
