The Republican Senatorial primary in Mississippi exhibited an over-the-top abuse of power, showing how the accumulation of one party political power corrupts the entire system.
Upon the death of Mark Mayfield, an attorney who had been arrested and charged with felony conspiracy for supposedly telling blogger Clayton Kelly how to access Rose Cochrans room in a nursing home, I began to look into how that ridiculous incident had gotten so out-of-hand. During the primary, I watched as Bradley Dayspring, communications frat-boy of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), made such a big deal about the arrest of the men that investigators had linked to the photo of Rose Cochran.
It is typical of the NRSC to hammer distracting details of supposed scandals of the opponents of their incumbency protection racket, rather than allow a debate between the establishment Senators they back, and any challengers. So, I treated the arrest of these so-called conspirators as a distraction during the campaign, and didnt pay much attention to what the phony frat-boy was tweeting at the time.
The death of Mark Mayfield changed all that.

I'm guessing but he may have been attracted to a lucrative "Halley Barbour Retirement Plan" that would come into play when he quits the Senate in 2015 or 2016 This would allow Barbour to effectively name his replacement.
That is so, so much better than an election. Elections are so, so unpredictable. You might even see a Tea Party guy or gal slip into this important post. We can't have that now can we? /sarc.

Thank you very much, I appreciate that you posted this:)
Thanks, it’s very sad, and the NRSC and the GOP are severely tarnished, and we need grown ups to take them over.
You did a fine assembly of facts, focusing them on the behind the scenes action and asking the right questions.
This story needs to go national.

I don’t believe thad cochran has had a lucid moment in a long time. I believe Kay Webber is his handler and cares for him and keeps him out of trouble on these trips they take together and probably with the rest of the Senator’s staff report to haley or to BGR. haley’s personal senator. The plan was probably for Cochran to retire and have the governor appoint someone to replace him and run as the incumbent but Senator McDaniel got into the race and was off to a good start and the thought it best to have Cochran run and with his incumbency get re-elected and then retire. I believe it will happen if Cochran is allowed to take this election. I believe he will lose if he is indeed the nominee and the loss of a safe republican senate seat will be the fault of the NRSC, NRC, the Mississippi republican party and the barbours.
I agree 100% with your post. A perfect analysis of this mess.
I bet I know his parents
Anyone can freepmail me who these folks are
Prep 75
Ole Miss 80
He was 57 and graduated from Prep. He was a Pike at Ole Miss. His parents were Charles and Dell Mayfield. (I found this via his obituary.) I am sure you crossed paths and knew a lot of the same folks.
Oops. I should have FReepmailed. Sorry!
That’s OK hon....I can’t recall him from that era.
If he was a Pike then he obviously wasn’t stodgy or overly preppie and must have enjoyed a good time
I’ll check my yearbooks
I was more the Riverside Park long haired crowd...I’d remember him from that for sure
Had I been Greek ...PKA would a been my best option too....I knew a number of them....
I’m sorry for his family...just awful
It is a terrible thing that was done to him.
