I think Chinaman is a derogative term that can be considered racist. I do think that’s fair enough.

Oriental was ginned up as a racist term a few decades ago by the PC brigade, but it isn’t racist or derogatory and shouldn’t be seen as such.

Oriental is to my mind a practical descriptive term that is more specific to a subset of Asians in contrast to the very broad Asian alone.

Caused mayhem in CA. The CHP had to figure out a new term for DWO. That is "Driving While Oriental." Talk to an insurance man.
