Bush could have closed the border successfully right after 911 and nobody would have said a word, instead he and Cheney created the Patriot Act to enact some bad laws that enabled more spying on Americans. The gist of the argument was "We don't know who is here so we need to spy on them". I know a lot of Freepers have disagreed with me on this over the years, but Bush could have solved this 13 years ago without any political fight...

We need to get rid of that Hart-Celler Act. End chain migration. Go back to quotas.

George Bush had the perfect opportunity on 9/11 to immediately secure all our borders.

Actually he had the responsibility to do so, but he did not. Why?

Maybe because of his hispanic relatives? Maybe because he’s a liberal at heart.
