For now, the incumbent, Johnny L. DuPree, remains in office, while the political stalemate continues.
Mr. DuPree, the Democratic candidate for governor in 2011, has been locked in a bitter battle with former City Councilman Dave Ware since the June 4 balloting, which ultimately gave Mr. DuPree a 37-vote advantage.
Mr. Ware, who ran for mayor as an independent, and his backers have waged a relentless battle since the vote, arguing that Mr. DuPree benefited from invalid absentee ballots and pervasive election fraud. (City officials also acknowledged that they had left a ballot-filled box unmonitored for a time after the vote, but said they found no evidence of tampering.)
Mr. DuPrees supporters have countered that Mr. Wares efforts amount to little more than a courtroom campaign to disenfranchise black voters in the city, where 53 percent of 47,000 residents are black. Mr. DuPree is black; Mr. Ware is white.

This case shows that McDaniel's strategy is sound. He needs only to show a substantial number of ballots were ineligible and clear indications of vote fraud in his opponent's camp to win a new election.

I’m confused. If it was overturned, why does DuPree remain in office?
If you are active on Twitter you will see Cochran fired his campaign manager (Wickers son in law) and lawyered up today. More proof of the NRSC money spent on race baiting ads too.

He won the second time. He is black, his opponent was white, and Hattiesburg is predominately black.
But the key takeaway is the corruption there is nothing new, and the courts are honest enough to order new elections.
If McDaniel gets his new election, I think he will win because either Cochran will resign or the blacks that came out in force for Cochran will not repeat it again.
Ted Cruz is Vice-Chair for the NRSC and people are trying to pin blame on him when in fact he had nothing to do with funding Cochran in MS.
This is likely why Ted is coming out now and being so vocal about the corruption in MS.
Ted was given the position with NRSC thinking it would tone him down. But as we see the NRSC actions have drawn him into the MS corruption.
Ted could resign but he was responsible for NRSC recently sending $70,000 to the McDaniel campaign. So Ted stays in the DC circle that sent money for Cochran’s corruption and then turns it on them so that $70,000 gets sent to the good guys.
That’s a new one. Rather than resign, work from the inside and turn the idiot bastards to your way of thinking.
I wonder what Ted said to the Chair of the NRSC?
” Rather than resign, work from the inside and turn the idiot bastards to your way of thinking”
Or maybe Ted Cruz ain’t who we thought he was.
That seems to be the pattern in the Republican party these days.
Yes I see a lot of posters or a few posters posing under different monikers throughout the web who are anonymously casting aspersions on Ted’s character.
I guess if they can’t outsmart Ted and they can’t buy him off, then one thing they can do is to spread doubt about him.
Nice try.
Every last one of the Cruz critics has nothing to show to back up their spread of doubt about him.
