More than 150 people in Tuscola Co. protested Monday night after learning the non-profit group Wolverine Human Services offered to house some children who crossed the U.S. border illegally near Saginaw.
Wolverine runs a juvenile facility in Vassar. It says it has dozens of empty beds.
"We don't have a lot of jobs around here," said Tamyra Murray, of Michiganders for Immigration Control and Enforcement, who protested the idea. "The cost to the taxpayer would be tremendous, even though Wolverine said it would be at the expense of the federal government-- that's our money. Eventually it would fall on local taxpayers."
Others asked people to understand that many of these children are running from violence in their home countries.
"As citizens of the United States, we have to do everything we can to at least accommodate some of them and find their families," said Gilberto Guevara, of the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan.
Wolverine Human Services is in talks with the federal government but there is no deal yet.
Awesome
We should write and call our state legislators and demand places like Wolverine be prohibited from bringing illegals to Michigan. Anywhere in Michigan. Tomorrow and every day until they pass emergency legislation.
Once it’s in MICHIGAN’s back yard, it’s not so ok with Michiganders.
OMG, we would be putting illegal aliens in a prison camp! Actually I don’t care about that, but the facility they are referring to was a state work camp, and is still owned by the Michigan Department of Corrections and is being leased out. Compared to some of these illegal aliens formers homes, it’s still the Ritz- Carlton. It’s approx. 45 minutes from me, and about 20 to 30 minutes east of Saginaw. I know people from that area, they’re mostly farmers (corn and sugar beets mostly, some soy) and tend to the right side of conservative. They won’t be happy with this idea at all.

League City, Texas city council voted tonight not to accept any of the kids from the border. They haven’t been asked to but they acted as a pre-emptive strike. Good for them!
I will bet many do not have families; however, if they stay here, they will be allowed to bring their families over.
They are a wedge. All the bleeding hearts say, as usual, "It's for the children."
Yes, they are pitiful, but our hospitals, schools, welfare systems are already overwhelmed.
Try crossing borders into Mex. as indigents--either deportation or jail.
Try to cross borders in Europe without passports.
What is wrong with people who can't understand rule of law, border security, sovereignty. Everything is touchy, feely, mush.
Oh yes---the Repubs are at fault.
vaudine
Isn’t a “juvenile facility” a JAIL???????
