The real reason gun control is failing

Americans are still OK with guns, and until we can change that, Michael Bloomberg's millions won't mean a thing

*

The Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety announced on Monday a new gambit for creating pressure on candidates to move, finally, in the direction of stricter gun laws: the group will offer them a survey. Everytown – one of several sane competitors playing the long game against the National Rifle Association’s stranglehold on violence in America – will make politicians put their positions on firearm restrictions, however convoluted, on the record. As the head of the organization, which has $50m in Bloomberg backing to the NRA’s untold millions, pronounced: “Now we’re going toe-to-toe with the gun lobby.”

This has the feel of a good idea, because it is one – one already employed, simply to opposite effect, by the NRA itself. Everytown isn't offering a counterweight to the NRA's rating system, it is duplicating it … just without the grades. What information could an anti-gun voter would find in the Everytown questionnaire that the NRA hasn't ferreted out itself? It will tell you who to vote for as surely as a National Right-to-Life rating will direct a voter concerned about preserving the right to choose.

Guns are tools, and as such are value neutral. Guns values, like any tool is based on how a person uses it, and even then are more a reflection of the person using it than anything intrinsic to the tool itself. Guns are not good or evil. guns are an extension of an individual. if a individual is good, healthy and lawful and has a gun then that gun is likely to be used in a lawful way, and vice versa. I know this sounds simplistic, but it is an argument I have successfully used against those who believe guns are intrinsically evil or bad. the analogy i have used is this: suppose you have a toaster. nobody believes toasters are evil or dangerous, right? It’s a device that toasts bread. If, however you were to drop said toaster into your spouses bath while they were bathing it would be quite lethal. Is that toaster now “evil”?. No, almost all people respond that the person who dropped the toaster in the bath are “evil”. It is the same with guns. They do not create violence. People create violence. Now guns can certainly facilitate violence if misused. However if properly used guns can also deter and stop violence. I think some of the issue with guns is the naive belief by liberals that somehow if they were able to magically make all of them disappear tomorrow that violence and crime would stop. But the truth of that is humans were beating the shit out of each other long before guns came along. I think it’s easier for liberals , who tend to be secular humanists to blame things rather than people for problems. If you take away the thing, however and the problem persists then by process of elimination the cause of the problem is people. Its true: people suck. but the first step in solving any problem is understanding the cause.

Its important to keep an eye on what your opponent is thinking and this is their latest thrust - the mental health issue.

In real fact, most people with mental problems are more afraid of you than you are of them. How dangerous are the average mentally impaired? They are more of a threat to themselves than to other people.

Dangerous, unstable people are not necessarily clinically “insane”. And dangerous, unstable people are the kind of individuals who pull off a Sandy Hook, etc. The problem is making sure such individuals can’t acquire a firearm. And there is the conundrum. You can’t. Most people with hot tempers are not Sandy Hook types.

What the evil left is not saying here, but IMPLYING, is that by giving the state, through selected mental health “specialists” the power to determine who is sane or not, you are giving government the right to determine who can have a firearm based on factors other than prior criminal behavior - and THAT is a very dangerous thing. Far more dangerous than the few Sandy Hooks we have had.

Ask a few of those people Stalin or his successors locked up in insane asylums for political crimes.

***Americans are still OK with guns, and until we can change that, Michael Bloomberg’s millions won’t mean a thing ***

They have been trying ever since 1962 and picked up steam in 1968, then the citizens wised up to this power grab and reject it at every turn.

In that this is an “al-Guardian” article, it deserves a rewrite to make slavery the issue, not gun control. Doing so really makes it abundantly clear what is the mindset of such people. Here it is:

The real reason slavery is failing

Americans are still OK with freedom, and until we can change that, Michael Bloomberg’s millions won’t mean a thing

The Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Slavery announced on Monday a new gambit for creating pressure on candidates to move, finally, in the direction of legalizing slavery: the group will offer them a survey.

Everytown – one of several sane competitors playing the long game against the Abolitionists stranglehold on black liberty in America – will make politicians put their positions on negro restrictions, however convoluted, on the record.

As the head of the organization, which has $50m in Bloomberg backing to the Abolitionists untold millions, pronounced: “Now we’re going toe-to-toe with the Abolitionist lobby.”...

I suspect this disconnect between pro-slavery advocates and the average, not-very-concerned voter has to do with the very tactic that Everytown and its ideological brethren believe to be their most effective pitch: We need slavery to stop black people from becoming “uppity”. We need slavery to protect our children from black people who are little more than animals...

We've had 45 YEARS of "Reasonable Gun Control" legislation and it hasn't done what the gun controllers said it would!

Gun control is an epic fail.

The Dem/libs have been engaging in a steady push to infringe on our right
to keep and bear arms for decades. And this is how it has been working out
for them in the last two decades...

And in the last two months... (Nov. 2012 and Dec. 2012)

And it continues...

And there is more...

And more...

MOLON LAVE! WE'LL BUY MILLIONS MORE. ;-)

“In the “bad guy with a gun” versus a “good guy with a gun” scenario, the problem isn’t who’s bad and who’s good, it’s that there is a gun involved, period.”

“And there we have a core part of leftist thought. The idea that people have no moral agency, make no moral choices, have no responsibility for their actions.”

Who's sick of millionaire liberal elites deciding they're sooooooooo much better than the rest of us? So much better they can tell us how to live.

Eff 'em.

Liberal elites should move to Dubai - now there's a county where the elites rule and the common people are treated like animals.

Zuckerberg and Bloomie, Michael Moore, Al Gore, John Kerry and all the other 'oh so superior liberal elite' assh*les would love it there.... shove-those-little-people-around paradise....

They basically BLEW THEIR CHANCE in the past...now, probably, twice as many people owned guns as did 30 years ago (even accounting for population growth).

Gun owners are DANGEROUS PEOPLE to liberals - they will vote to keep their guns, and that generally doesn’t help Democrats much (except in some parts of the country, where enough people are already unarmed).
