Supreme Court Ruling Opens Door For Daycare Workers To Get Money Back

Unions took $4 million from Michigan daycare workers; class action lawsuit now possible.

Michigan daycare operators who had millions of dollars taken from them in a unionization scheme that has since been outlawed, may get some of their money back.

On June 30, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Harris v. Quinn that people who take care of others and are paid with funds that partially come from the state cannot be unionized because they are not state workers. It also opened the door for Michigan daycare workers involved in a previous, separate scheme to revisit a class action lawsuit to get money back that was taken by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union and the UAW.

Hard to imagine that in a right to work state this could have ever been tolerated. Sue for the theft... then sue for violation of your rights that are protected by law. Kill the union.

PE Unions will spend millions to try and avoid giving back the money, which is a good thing, because in the end, they will have to pony up. But the end game should be to punish the union-loving politicians who wrote these laws in the first place.

Not only should the money be refunded in full, but the unions should be charged with extortion and forced to pay damages.

It will work out that the union is forgiven for the $4 million past due, with the stipulation that, going forward, no union dues will be taken out of the paychecks. They will of course ignore the court ruling and take the dues out anyways, and by the time the next court case is settled, they’ll have contributed another $4 million to the Democrats for the fall elections.

I’m going to show my ignorance now. How can public employee unions give money to the state or national Den. or Rep.? Would that not be considered bribing? Or at the least a conflict of interest on the part of the gov’t.

It’ll be great if they prevail as there are other states it could affect.

The unions will be screaming bloody murder, that’ll be great too.

Your prediction about Alito throwing this decision was wrong. Care to make a statement?

Kill the union.<<

All good and well... NOW!...but do a little research!!......There was a time when we needed unions....We'd been shackled (our ancestors anyways)by pushing them to limits........

(not unlike we conservatives feel today)....its a changing world IMHO...we have to adapt and teach.....when we are too old to fight effectively...

My Point?..too much of a good thing or a bad thing can affect ones perspective...That's what makes us humans Do your own DD on affect vs. effect...kinda the same thing were talking about

The daycare dues skim started in 2009 and was ended by Gov. Rick Snyder in early 2011.

This is about getting the money back, the skimming has ended.
