Mississippi Tea Party dreams were extirpated last week when State Senator Chris McDaniel lost his Republican primary bid to unseat Senator Thad Cochran. Yet if some of Mr. McDaniels most outspoken contemporaries are any guide, he may actually have greater political influence as a loser.
Mr. McDaniel made clear this week that he was not giving up the fight, dashing off fund-raising emails declaring Mississippis Republican Senate runoff a sham, plain and simple, and offering rewards to individuals who provide evidence leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in voter fraud.
Thanks to illegal voting from liberal Democrats, my opponent stole last weeks runoff election, he wrote.
He was playing to type. Many of the Tea Party movements most resonant or at least loudest voices these days were themselves Election Day losers who have packed up their ideas about government and elections along with their campaign signs and headed to outside groups, radio programs or their own living rooms in an effort to influence campaigns, often making heaps of trouble for their own party.

The mother of this strategy is Sarah Palin, the failed vice-presidential candidate who jettisoned her job as governor of Alaska in favor of a personal bully pulpit and a political action committee to support conservatives candidates, who largely covet her nod....

How can Sarah Palin "go away" when they mention her in every third article they write? Do they get paid bonuses for bringing her name up? Hardly anything else would explain it, except that they still fear her for some reason.

The unintended consequences of a vicious smear campaign, which you would understand Jennifer if you had two brain cells to rub together.

Living rent-free in their heads. Sara’s got a lovely split-level, just down the street from Rush’s log cabin.

Hardly anything else would explain it, except that they still fear her for some reason. Of course they do. They fear her passion. That's the same reason that they fear the Tea Party. It's the reason they fear Jim Robinson. It's the reason they fear Free Republic. It's because we really, really believe in what we are fighting for.
It's why they much prefer their gentlemanly association with the GOPe. Now those guys know their place. It's called second place.

The unintended consequences of a vicious smear campaign, which you would understand Jennifer if you had two brain cells to rub together. None of the news media narratives make reference to the most explosive aspect of Cochran's campaign - the smear campaign trolling for black crossover votes.
And so of course they will be taken off guard by the ultimate tea party reaction - again.

“Extirpated”? .... The NYT is having another of their fantasies or wet-dreams. They are becoming more and more detached from reality as they become more and more financially insolvent.
Looking forward to their going under.
