Robert De Niro said in a recent interview that his late father never discussed his homosexuality.
"He was very private so he wouldn't go into that with me," De Niro told Katie Couric on Yahoo News. "I don't really know much about that side of my father."
The Academy Award winning actor said he did have "some inkling" that his father was gay and his mother even made some inferences but it was never "brought up."
"You kind of ... knew but didn't know," he said.
De Niro has been making media rounds to promote his documentary, "Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro, Sr." The actor used his father's journal entries to chronicle the life of the artist, who died of prostate cancer at 71 years old in 1993.
In the documentary, De Niro Jr. reads several journal entries where his father describes his struggle with homosexuality.
"If God doesn't want me to be a homosexual (about which I have so much guilt) he will find a woman whom I will love and who will love me or at least create an interest in me in women as sexual partners," De Niro Sr. wrote.
"The pills don't help or the prayers either. God! God! God!"
In another journal entry, De Niro Sr. whose paintings include depictions of Jesus and the cross wrote, "Being a painter is an affliction. Like being a homosexual. One has to have the strength to continue working without the recognition either before or after death just as one had to have the strength to accept life alone without the thought of romantic attachment."
The younger De Niro, who wants to promote his father's art work, said his parents divorced when he was 11 or 12 but actually separated when he was 2 or 3 years old.
"Obviously, I realize now that it was hard for him," the actor said.
Picasso, Matisse , a little Emil Nolde a lot. Check out Nolde’s art. very similar.
Sounds to me like DeNiro’s dad KNEW his desires were wrong and prayed continually to be rescued from sin.
That is a lesson all Christ followers ought to remember.
Anthony Burgess addressed that issue in his novel “The Wanting Seed”. In some ways, that book is more “prophetic” about the direction a totalitarian society can go than 1984.
If you decide you are gay, you were born gay.
If you later decide you are straight, you were born straight.
But if you even later decide that you are actually gay. you were born gay.
Because.....science
I have a friend I’ve known since collage, who is gay, tell me once he had female friends that turned him on. He was so shocked by that.
——so how would a gay man get aroused enough to the point of being able to impregnate a woman?——
Is that a serious question?
All it takes to impregnate a women is a penis...and one lucky sperm....
He was a “pitcher” most likely.... not a “catcher”...who tend to be flamboyant and wish they had a vagina....
You know God cursed them with a penis...
The professor had then gone on to explain that any student who worried about being gay because they had once had a 'gay thought' was wrong. That most people's minds are all over the chart when it comes to sex. And that the odds of being in the 2% on either tail of the curve without knowing it are small...
I suspect the professor was liberal,bi, irrational, and projecting...
RE: Because it isnt true.
I’d like to read more elaboration on that instead of just a one line statement.
That’s it, I’m done.
This leaves them vulnerable to various acts of street crime, perpetrated frequently by the sort of sketchy, desperate people most likely to be thought to want to take part in such things and be found in the bad parts of town.
But easier to blame it on those evil straights.
Gay men, especially when drunk, often put their hands where they are not wanted. Saintly Matt Shepard made a habit of this.
But ..true.
ugh! No thanks.
I was reminded of how important it was for parents to live lives of sexuality purity this morning when I was reading up on a Canadian serial killer Paul Bernardo (its an old case but it happened to be in the news)
. For those who dont know, he was involved in the rape of many girls and finally in the sadomasochistic slaying of his girlfriends sister and two other young women. In keeping with the earlier thought that sexuality is a very delicate thing, it was obvious that somewhere in his life, something had happened that sent him down this road of depravity. In doing about 2 minutes of research, it was found that he was the by-product of his mothers adultery and she continued to live an isolated life in the basement of their family home after he was born. Clearly his father and mother were not a couple who sexually lived their lives Gods way. Heres a Bible verse that is very hard for most people to accept because of its intonation that it condemns multiple generations to suffer the consequences after his/her father, grandfather or great-grandfather had sinned
. Exodus 34:7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. That word iniquity is often translated as being the same as sin but a more accurate rendition is that its the root of the sin
.as preachers sometimes say, iniquity is the root and sin is the fruit. This verse that expresses condemnation of subsequent generations is actually repeated several times in scripture and has to be treated as a curse of some sort
. and fortunately, curses can be broken for those who call on Gods name.
No I was meant gays keep saying they are “born that way” and they can’t change their sexuality no more than a straight guy can turn gay. Well then how can he have hetero sex if he is gay? He would need to get aroused enough for penetration and orgasm which would be impossible if he were gay. I’m a straight guy and there is no way in hell I could ever get into have sex with another guy, so if that is their comparison, then how can he go from being straight to being gay? He doesn’t say his father was bisexual, he said his father was GAY. I think this just proves that people aren’t born gay but that it’s a conscious choice.
Interesting stuff... makes sense... Thanks for sharing.
No peer reviewed study has ever shown a variance in base hormones levels between heterosexual men and homosexual men greater than the normal variance between men.
RE: Interesting stuff... makes sense... Thanks for sharing.
Actually someone else disagrees with the “research”. See post #79 above.
