Typical GI can’t shoot the 45 cal hardball accurately. The Army should consider going to revolvers.
BTW, I actually like the Beretta M92 in 9MM. IMNVHO, it's the wimp NATO ammo issued by the military that could be the problem. Put some manly loads in the mag, and then we'll talk "lethality" ...whatever that is. Missed shots with the ole .45 (which I hear do happen) aren't very lethal, either.
The reason ‘typical GI can’t shoot the 45...accurately’ is because they were never trained to shoot it accurately. When went into 1/32 Armor, the platoon sergeant gave me a 10 minute block of instruction on how to shoot it accurately and I fired expert with it ever since. He said that the accruacy problem was strictly due to lack of training on how to shoot it.
And the same thing went for the .50 Ma Deuce. Most folks pointed and sprayed. the Squadron commander insisted folks actually use the sites and we got much better accuracy.
It’s called practice. If you practice long enough you perfect the use of your implements.
CSM,
Wouldn’t that be more attributable to the difficulty most people have in applying the steady hold and aim factors to pistols as opposed the caliber and type (auto -v- revolver)?
