The catastrophe suffered by the Grand Armee was only the most horrific of the disasters lice borne typhus inflicted on armies and other closely packed groups of humans throughout the centuries preceding the twentieth. That book summarizes the worst of them and how a British naval lieutenant in the 18th century figured out what was carrying the typhus and how to stop it. Suffice it to say, HHS isn't following that man's recommendations and we have a good chance of suffering a replay of what happened to the Grand Armee.
