Hundreds of protesters block central entrance to Israeli capital, chanting "Death to the Arabs" and "Muhammad is dead"; 10 arrested for attacking Arab youths. Some 400 protesters, including rightwing extremists and Beitar Jerusalem football fans, blocked the central entrance to the Israeli capital on Tuesday afternoon. The demonstrators clashed with police near the Jerusalem Chords Bridge, calling out Death to the Arabs, Muhammad is dead, and No Arabs, no bombings. Ten of the activists were arrested for attacking Arab youths.
The rightwing activists chanted insults to Arab members of Knesset Haneen Zoabi and Adhmad Tibi. The protesters also distributed stickers: No more government chatter we demand revenge. Some of the demonstrators placed the stickers on moving vehicles, and others threw debris at those driving past
The demonstration led to escalating traffic jams, and the limited number of police officers on the scene was struggling to maintain the peace.
The protest took place as the same time as the funeral procession of Gil-Ad Shaer, Naftali Frenkel, and Eyal Yifrach whose bodies were discovered in a shallow grave dug by their abductors in a wadi between Halhul and Beit Kahil.

Hamas isn’t talking about the “normal routine” that Israel and Hamas go through all the time with the rocket attacks. This is a very long-standing routine.
What Hamas is referring to is if Israel does something different, outside of the retaliation for rocket attacks. Now the problem here is that Hamas for the first time - is supposed to be able to hit Tel Aviv, and that would be a lot more serious than the rockets they normally fire. Hamas is holding these in reserve to really inflict some serious damage!
On the Debka site, they comment that Netanyahu is bombing empty Hamas buildings in Gaza.
Lets face it, once word was out that bodies were found, the terrorists hightailed out of them no doubt.
The protestors see the government’s military action as limited and symbolic, not decisive like Ariel Sharon’s operations in Lebanon in 1982 that killed PLO by the hundreds and trapped Arafat in front of the beach in Beirut.
The PLO could have been eliminated and crushed at that point had it not been for the intervention of Ronald Reagan, who put Marines along with French and Italian troops onto the Beirut coast as a buffer force among warring parties.
The PLO was allowed to escape and gain political power in the future when Israel dealt it to them in secret negotiations to create the Palestinian Authority.
That made the right wing in Israel mad, too. There was plenty of suicide terrorism that came from PA territory.
Former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (Labor Party) was assassinated for dealing the territories away to the PLO.
In history take note Johnson and Nixon bombed Vietnam a lot and it stopped the communists from taking it over??????
There’s been so much bombing in Afghanistan and Pakistan and that has defeated the terrorists there, too??????
Douglas MacArthur wanted a total war in Korea, Truman wanted a limited war (police action) under UN authority.
Nobody fights total wars to destroy enemies anymore including the Israeli governments of today.
Good answer.
It’s strange; in some of your posts (like that one, for example), you sound like you’re rooting for Hamas, and really hoping and praying that Israel treats them with kid gloves.
There are two things going on here with a post. The first would be to defend Israel in what it does, as it is unjustly hammered in the media with a lot of false accusations. And in connection with that, a significant number of people who think they are actually helping Israel are actually making it easier for that false propaganda to be spread.
The second thing that is going on — is by way of an explanation of what is happening and why Israel is doing something. For example in this case, tuthere were quite a few people on Free Republic in the last day who actually thought Israel was striking back for the teens’ death, when what was going on was a completely different matter. Part of “explaining” why Israel is doing something is to make sure that one actually “knows” what Israel is doing. In this case many people did not
Now ... furthermore, the fact that this is “very routine” for Israel, in no way means it’s something that is a cakewalk for Hamas. Many times Israel will be killing a few Hamas operatives as they attempt to launch a rocket. It’s absolutely deadly business for Hamas, and many of their facilities get bombed out. But they’ve also learned to hunker down and away from their facilities.
And lastly, these discussions that Israel is having (Netanyahu and his Cabinet) you can bet they’re discussing the dangers of escalating things too far and then they’ll end up having a major mobilization on their hands when they don’t want it. And on top of that, if Tel Aviv is hit, then you’re going to be talking about some Jewish deaths and things will really get out of hand. There is a good article in Haarerz about that very thing, too, today. I was going to post it later.
These are all important considerations and it helps for people to really understand how Israel operates.
