I read that article several times and still have no idea what it means. I don’t even understand the question. Does it mean people want to be free and don’t think they are? Or does it mean people aren’t happy being free and would trade less freedom for more econmic security? Or is it simply an indication that people think government is corrupt and inefficent?
I used to belong to multiple polling groups and have quit bothering to respond for very similar reasons. Most questions posed by most of the organizations I responded to had questions designed so that in and of themselves the questions meant nothing and regardless of the outcome were open to corrupt manipulation. The remaining organizations rigged the questions so that the only answers possible would result in an unwanted outcome.
It became quite obvious that I was being used by these organizations in a Persuasion propaganda campaign. I don't have enough background in the subject to correctly assign the correct theory and method but, I nonetheless recognized the reality of "polling". Im sure a marketing specialist around here could correct/comment at length.
The gist of the point is that polling, all forms of polling, are nothing more than manipulations and the answers derived from them should never be admitted to your mind as factoids of any value regardless of the source of the information propaganda.
Whatever it meant, it got worse since Obama took over. Most of the places that rate highly have the four freedoms FDR talked about: speech, worship, want ,fear
