New details have been released after at least five people, including a young child, were killed late Sunday night when a wrong-way driver slammed head-on into their pickup in northeast Harris County.
The two-vehicle wreck happened about 11 p.m. on the westbound North Sam Houston Parkway near John Ralston, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said Efraim Carmona was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram 5500 pickup eastbound in the westbound lanes when he smashed into a 2000 Ford F-150.
Five people in the Ford died at the scene. The front passenger in the Ford was injured and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
The names of the victims have not been released.

I was on business in San Antonio a couple years ago, and was planning to leave the hotel one evening to meet up with some friends for dinner. The hotel clerk told me “Be careful pulling out of the parking lot; make sure you look both ways.” I responded, “Look both ways? It’s a one-way street!” He hesitated, then one of the other hotel guests in the lobby piped in: “He won’t say it, but I will: it’s the damned drunk Mexicans. They’ll drive the wrong way on the streets. You also have to watch out, because they’ll drive without their lights on, to try to avoid the cops.”
Drunk illegals are a common hazard driving in most of Texas.
Been that way for more than 30 years. Just more of them now. What burns me is that we had a guy in the White House who had been the governor of Texas. He lived in Austin, just a short drive from the border. While President, he did nothing about the border.
The accident occurred on the actual toll way. However, to get onto the wrong side of the toll road, he must have also been going the wrong way on the feeder.
Was the accident in the fast lane or the slow lane?
They know who the driver is his name and picture was on last nights local news.
Then why did the company not know who was driving their truck?
Maybe the truck was stolen. The police and the reporters had a name and a picture of the driver.
I haven’t seen any news today but as of last night they had no names for the people killed, they had no IDs on them.
If the truck was stole, why did the driver not report it stolen?
The images clearly show the company truck’s cab to be intact...Did the driver of the company truck have ID, or a wallet?
Could the cops not match the ID with the driver? Is there no pic or description of the driver on his own license?
Why does the company not know who the hell is driving their truck?
You don’t find it odd when the company says they don’t know who was driving their own truck, after a driver of their own company truck commits mass murder while driving drunk?
Because his Social Security card said he was “Gertrude Abigail Hortense”.
Photos of the vehicles at the following link:
And that is why I asked them, because the company gave very misleading comments after the event.
BTW, it seems you’re getting this on the local news. Did they ever bother to say if this was the company’s driver?
Or was this story sent to the corn field?
The little girl who survived is still unconscious.
At a press conference this afternoon, Garcia said Carmona had a blood-alcohol
level of .23. They also say he’s not cooperating.
I always watch Channel 2 and they didn’t mention it.
Carmona was allegedly traveling the wrong way on the Beltway in his pickup truck when he slammed into another vehicle on Beltway 8 at Wilson Road. The victims were traveling westbound. None were wearing seat belts, according to Cotter.
There was no car seat in the vehicle and the child deceased on the scene was probably about 3-4 years old, she said.
Carmona’s blood alcohol level was measured at .23, almost three times the legal limit.
He refused to cooperate in questioning with us. There were many multiple containers (of beer) in the vehicle, but he was uncooperative in the investigation. Cotter said.
Carmona was taken by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital. He’s expected to be released from the hospital in two or three days.
Investigators say they still have not identified the victims. None were carrying identification. The truck is registered to a previous owner.
I know the guy he lives down the road and yes he is a acme driver there trying to cover it up
