I know what youre thinking. Good Lord, not another Washington Redskins racism story. I can relate to that feeling, since Ive been sick of the subject since I first heard of it as a young man. Well, fear not
it may have started there, but today well jog off on an interesting side path which has cropped up. It isnt just sports teams which use names associated with indigenous Americans far from it and Dr. James Joyner highlights one example which is right in front of our faces
at least if youre anywhere near an Army base. He references a piece by Simon Waxman, who argues that the US Army is slurring Native Americans with the names of our helicopters.
Are they going to rename that river running through the District of Corruption too? Its the Potomac..a strangely Indian (American type) name. Somebody must be hurt by it. Duplicitous bass turds.
Yep, I heard that Apache helicopters are bigoted. We have to be politically correct, and change the names of military hardware now.
Maybe they should Sioux.
The Army could always rename the Apache to something more descriptive like “the Killer.”
Jeep Grand CHEROKEE; there are hundreds of registered trademarks for each of these: Apache, Cherokee and Sioux.
Sheesh! How is “Apache” a slur? It’s just their name. Saying stupid, lazy Apache might be a slur, but plain old Apache should be fine.
There won’t be any language left when the liberals get through with it.
What about Seattle? Racist to the core. This cannot be allowed to stand.
Dewey and Louie say it demeans their artistic rights.
This has gone beyond comical.
Methinks some folks need to grow some seriesly thick red skin or put some suave on it.
Most states will probably have to be renamed too... Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Minnesota, the Dakotas etc, are all Indian names.
Cities too, where does it end?
Maybe we need to name our military hardware after famous transvestites.
I think we should get rid of all the Native American names of places, streets etc. Let’s cleanse our society of this bigotry. Then we can also get rid of all the Spanish names places and streets. Let’s give them all good old Anglo-Saxon names.
We wouldn’t want to “offend” transvestites, would we? It’s horrible to name anything after anybody, this has been made crystal clear over the past decade or two.
It’s not wrong to offend white people, so maybe you have a point.
Well, I’m offended now, since I am of Dutch ancestory, and some one talks about going “dutch” on a date. Well, I doubt if that term gets used much anymore, but still......... Can I get some reparations here? For past offenses of course.
Or how about this flower, which obviously dishonors Native Americans?
The Indian Paintbrush
clever!
As far as I know, Millennials don’t use (and probably never heard) the term “going Dutch” or “Dutch treat” but that’s what they DO. Today the women fresh out of college make about the same income as the guys and they want to pay their own way. To show how liberated they are, I guess. Let ‘em, I say.
The thought police seem to want to wipe out every vestige of our Amerindian brethren.
But, but, but isn’t that like the war on women? Or something. LOL! Maybe if the lyin’king walked a mile in my old wooden shoes, he’d change his mind. Or how about tilting at windmills? Lot’s of windmills in Holland. I guess that term is from a bygone era also. Change sucks. LOL!
