Not saying the programs are non-viable at this moment in time, but they are in the long run. That's why Congress keeps tinkering with eligibility.

Social Security and Medicare are pay as you go programs, i.e., today's workers pay for today's retirees. Medicare has been running in the red since 2008 and Social Security has been paying out more in benefits than it receives in revenues since 2010. As a result, to make up the shortfall, the General Fund must come up with the money (40% borrowed) to redeem the non-market, interest bearing T-bills in the HI, SS, and DI trust funds to pay full benefits. The DI Trust Fund runs out of T-bills in 2016, at which time benefits must be cut by law. The Medicare Trust fund will last until 2026 and SSTF until 2033.

The reality is that these programs are not viable now as currently structured. We are borrowing money to pay benefits now.

Could happen he looks like death warmed over.

He does and I think his mortality is much on his mind of late. I think he's not well and knows his time is short.

I don't think that either one of 'em looks like the picture of health.

(I doubt Bubba wants to be pushin' up daisies, even if it would win the Hildebeest 2 million votes. I don't think he's convinced that he will get a lot of BJs from chubby interns in the hereafter. At least not as many as he'd get as First Husband in the White House. No, I think he's the primary moving force behind Hillary's campaign -- and he expects to participate after she wins. He must know that Dick Cheney is doing fine after his heart transplant. How bad can Bubba's heart possibly be?)

Social Security, Medicare, VA, and railroad are ‘earned’ benefits. People worked and paid into those, either with money or service.

Unemployment is funded initially by employers who pay into the state system. When the system is overwhelmed (more unemployed than normal), the state or FED has to increase the fund.

The others are ‘unearned’ benefits or special qualifications benefits.

Good analysis. This should be part of test to be administered to pass high school, and then again college.

Many think these appear out of nowhere.

Also, wait until todays generation finds out your Social Security is actually subject to taxation... What a “ tax on a tax “.... Surprise coming.

Lois Lerner’s Attorney says that she did nothing wrong and doesn’t want to testify because she’ll get “bullied” - uh, sorry, but you don’t get to invoke the 5th because you don’t feel like testifying. You can only invoke the 5th if it would cause you to incriminate yourself. So either they lied about the fact that she would incriminate herself and she she should be forced to testify (and confined until she does so) or she is telling the truth that testifying would incriminate her, so she engaged in criminal activity, which should be uncovered and prosecuted.

SMH...

Will the LIV believe it though?

The actual key to even believing this is that you find no problem with the idea that people spontaneously erupting into a riot happen to be carrying rocket propelled grenade launchers and mortars tubes and suitable shells for them...

The Benghazi attackers came armed for a firefight as in a military operation. It happened on 9/11, and it had been planned for some time.

Those are the FACTS.

Anything else is just somebody talking....

For a change I watched essentially all of the Sunday shows.

Did you notice all of the discussion about the misconduct of the GOP in Mississippi?
Wow. Me neither.

How about the blockbuster Best Seller "Blood Feud" by Ed Klien?
Nothing. Just peace in the valley as the MSM put on their Valerie Jarrett and Bill Clinton puff pieces. Yet another Sad Sunday.

And wasn't Reince Priebus just fantastic?
Well, no he wasn't'. How do we get rid of this guy? And Karl Rove. And, sad to say, I'm thinking we are slowly losing Brit Hume as well.

It’s hard to believe Americans still watch TV talk shows...

Concocted, rehearsed, and choreographed skits licensed by the feds, put on for the audience of applauding fools...

Whoever come’s up with the most clever quip wins...

As they all have a fun laugh, flashing their paper white teeth and movie star smiles.

The problem with Congress is that the actually do not write laws... Their policy wonks on staff and the lobbyists do.

Take Obamacare for example. Pelosi said they had to pass it to see what was in it due to this standard operating procedure of writing laws by staff as opposed to Congress-critters. She was at least truthful when she said this. Everyone thinks she's an idiot for saying this but it is fundamentally true.

No, most here know that I am no supporter of this HAG but it was in fact the most truthful thing I've ever heard her utter. Must have been the botox!

But no one seems to care. The only one I have seen who rails against this is my Senator, Jeff Sessions, Republican (conservative), Alabama. When he was opposing the numerous amnesty bills he used a thousand plus page law as a prop and said, paraphrasing, “Congress should NEVER pass a bill they cannot read in one day.”

Anyway, any bill that large is going to have all kinds of unintended consequences that leave it wide open to the courts and bureaucrats to decide what it means, which means we are pushed further into tyranny and makes us all lawbreakers without even realizing it.

Before I retired from the Air Force I was on a HQ's staff and we were required to write position papers and rules that only had one page. All the supporting information was on appendixes, but the General wanted all the facts simply stated up front. If you couldn't do that, it was his belief you hadn't thought it through enough, and he was right. Do that too many times and you'd get orders to Greenland!

Sometimes the laws are written by the policy wonks and staffers in the executive.

-- Everyone thinks she's an idiot for saying this [had to pass it to see what was in it] but it is fundamentally true. --

Yes, but only when they have an urge to pass it in a jiffy. Not that I'm a fan of long-winded laws, but if somebody had time to write it, then others have time to read it.

You are fortunate to have Jeff Sessions. Well, we all are. He's a smart guy, yet down to earth. He is one of few in Congress that has a handle on the limits of legislation, human nature, and history. He's sharp as a tack on immigration.

Same thing in a major corporation I worked for before retiring.

CEO would say I see you have your experts , books, and presentation all ready.

How about this. You have 1 minute to convince me why I should listen to / see anything else as I consider why/how I should support your ideas.

Oh yes!

We who do this thread have come to that conclusion many, many years ago.

As far as both the hosts and the guests go, they all spin, twist the facts, misrepresent their opponents positions, snark and gloat and generally do it all for propaganda purposes. Many of them just tell bald-faced lies. Many of these are Republicans, in fact, the RINOs are some of the worst of them at these tactics.

But here we are, week after week, documenting it all.

Still up in the air if it’s worth it at all.

Karl rove has twisted the truth about the teaparty to his advantage and fox let him get away with it. He's taking credit for wins we were never involved in.

Fair and balanced and all the other alphabet channels, never mentioned a word of the flyer's and robo calls calling McDaniel and the teaparty racist. They also haven't mentioned the democrats officials who said they witnessed cheating and cover up.

You know the republicans are tight with the democrats on this. This would be a perfect scandal to take some heat off obama. Instead, they both want to harm the teaparty more than each other. They both have the same goal. Keep lobbyist money flowing so it lands in there pockets.

Fox has shown there true colors to many, many people who are beyond mad and not just in MS. The whole media including fox are a bunch of incestuous sister and brothers in bed with one another. Ge is owned by NBC who doesn't pay taxes and who owns .........of course the media doesn't report the truth. None of them. They are actors/actresses reading a script written by Karl rove or..... We the people are on our own to find the real truth.
