This is for the people who this week are trying to present the equivalence challenged in the headline as a way to build support for Rob Maness.
Well make this short: those of you trying to make that analogy are all wet, either because your understanding of politics in this state is next to nil or because your relationship with the truth is a hostile one.
To make Cassidy-Maness-Landrieu be actionably analogous to Cochran-McDaniel-Childers, youd need four elements to be different.
(SNIP) Third, Cassidy would have to be somebody different. Hed need to be the incumbent, which hes not, and hed need to be a puppet of a governing machine, which hes not. Is Cassidy a Bobby Jindal guy? No and the proof of that came when he fired Jindals campaign guru Timmy Teepell a year ago. Is he a David Vitter guy? There is some interplay between Cassidys team and Vitters; Cassidys campaign manager Joel DiGrado used to work for Vitter. But if you could make that case credibly youd struggle to say that paints Cassidy as an Establishment RINO; nobody thinks that of Vitter.
As for the idea that Cassidy is an Establishment RINO, its valid to point to a few votes hes made that would make him look less than the ideal conservative. Of the five Louisiana Republican congressmen, Steve Scalise and John Fleming are elite conservatives, Cassidys more or less in the middle and Charles Boustany and Vance McAllister are lousy.

McCain has a rating of 81.8, so Cassidy isn't too far ahead. Both Mike Lee and Ted Cruz have a rating of 100.
Maness isn't a politician, and hasn't held office, so he's not rated. But for myself have compared him to a Rand Paul / Ted Cruz, as well as a few radio personalities that have interviewed him. Did I mention that Ted Cruz rating was 100?
Heritage bad votes he took:

Limit Crop Insurance Premium Subsidies
Cut $1.5 billion from the Department of Energy
Permanent Farm Bill

$1.1 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill
On the Commission to Study Feminist History Museum
On OPIC Reauthorization
WRDA Conference Report

Higher Education Reform and Opportunity (HERO) Act

Id look at heritage because it rates immigration votes negative. ACU chairman is pro-amnesty. If it is a Steve King amendment it is a positive.

GOP-E and the "money" will be behind Cassidy, but hopefully Maness will prevail.
