Democrats were crossing their fingers that Chris McDaniel would be the Republican nominee in Mississippi.
But since Sen. Thad Cochran has prevailed, they are trying to do the unthinkable unseat a six-term GOP senator.
McDaniel supporters are irate that Cochran won a GOP primary by reaching across the aisle. Now some of his backers are ambivalent about whether theyll come out at all in November and if they dont, that could create a rare opening for a Democrat here.

“. I am not a big fan of the DC GOP establishment, but its better than Reid and the democraps”
I’m sorry. Your heart is in the right place and no personal affront meant here but I disagree. The very reason Reid is such an effective wrecking ball is because of GOP establishment types just like Cochran. Putting Cochran back in the senate is fine with Reid.
Sooner or later we have to stop rewarding mediocrity; and that term is being generous to the likes of Cochran. What good is the Senate when the sole motivator for capturing it is to score the chairmanships so the republicans can spend us into oblivion to enrich themselves, families, friends and supporters? The gop wants to appeal to democrats? See how far it gets them in November. Even better, show up and vote for the democrat.
Corrupt politicians and political organizations need to learn the error of their ways.

What pure crap
It is ludicrous to think that this country can be saved via the ballot box. Cloward/Priven is now the conservative’s best hope as our Constitution must rise from the ashes if it is ever going to be meaningful again. In the meantime, FTGOP!
I'm really sick and tired of being taken for granted but apparently you get off on BOHICA. You can have it. I'm done!
And what? The GOP's gonna get a back bone when they gain the majority? Keep dreaming.
Are you a Haley Barbour Mitch McConnell shill?
They are liars, frauds and Cheats! If that is what you support sign up at D.U. and join the D.N.C.!
McCain and the RINOs preach the virtue of reaching across the aisle. Maybe it’s time for us to reach across the aisle and support the Democrat.
Come election day, Cochran will win easily. The race will be called 1 second after the polls close. McDaniel was the better candidate and the true choice of most Republican primary voters, but the Cochran campaign and its allies pulled every dirty trick in the book and won. It's a lesson learned, movement conservatives will adapt and work to counter this sort of thing in the future.
What is at stake here is the Senate majority. Even if Cochran were a dead skunk who could cast only one single vote for a Republican majority leader instead of Reid, he'd be better than the Democrat.
With no filibuster to stop Obama nominees, he has 2 more years after 2014 to stack the 3rd branch of government (Judiciary) with liberal ideologues. Cochran will help the Republicans slow walk and block as many as possible simply by casting that one vote for a GOP Senate, the Democrat (Childers) will vote to keep Reid in power.
Politics is filthy and dirty and people should not put their faith in ANY politician. Even the ones we like best will do just about anything to further their career and power. It is not a shock that a 30+ year veteran in the pocket of the Mississippi Republican establishment would call in every chit to stay in power. Getting a Republican Senate is just too important as it will grind Obama's nominating powers to a crawl, most conservatives/Republicans in Mississippi will figure this out very easily.
So much bluster. You wanna wager on this? I'll bet you Cochran wins in a walk and that this race is called seconds after the polls close. In the end, it won't even be close. If polling shows it could be, Republicans won't have to spend that much money to remind a bright red state that Childers is a Democrat who will support an Obama supporting Senate. The vast majority of conservatives/Republicans will realize dethroning Reid is more important than holding a grudge about the slimy way Cochran won.
Listen to that robocall. Put out by a PAC headed by Haley Barbour’s nephew, Henry.
Tell me that sounds like a GOP that’s going to do ANYTHING to slow down Obama...
There are a lot of Freepers that contend that the GOP must lose the Senate in order to either teach them a lesson or else that they must vote for the “loser” no matter what, because the GOP winner is simply not right in all ways for their own political views.
In other words, there has been for quite a while a lot of Freepers cutting off their noses to spite their faces ... :-) ...
I’ve already seen posts that all of McDaniel’s supporters must vote for the Democrat in the coming general election ... LOL ...
It apparently doesn’t take much to turn some people into Democrats!
See my post at 51 and see if you have an answer for that.
I am feeling very much like I will be voting for Travis myself. To qoute Mrs Clinton "At this point What difference is it going to make"?
“ALL his supporters need to come out and vote for the Democrat.”
Obama THANKS YOU!!!
Anyone who supports Obama and his far left, anti-US agenda is NO CONSERVATIVE, not even close.
My answer is the same as I’ve indicated before, elsewhere ... that if you turn yourselves into Democrats and vote with them, get ready for 100 years in the wilderness and a long recuperation after you’ve shot yourself in the foot, and hand and arm ... etc. ... LOL ...
And by the way, in Oklahoma for example, Lankford beat Shannon handily, even though Shannon was backed by the National Tea Party figures. However the Oklahoma Tea Party people put out campaign material saying that they did NOT want Shannon. And then, of course, Coburn indicated his affinity for Lankford.
Things don’t always line up in a “story-book fashion” (like in Oklahoma) but we don’t go “turning Democrat” just because everything doesn’t line up the way we want.
I guess you forgot how this turned out — how does it go, those who forget/ignore history are condemned to repeat it?

Conservative rival Richard Mourdock easily wins Indianas Republican Senate primary over the 35-year incumbent. He will face Democratic Rep. Joe Donnelly in the general election.

And yet they have, and will. After 2014, and assuming we keep the House, Obama can basically do 2 things - nominations to the bench as well as political appointees and executive actions. With a Republican Senate Obama's nominations will be stalled as is usually the case with all Presidents at the end of their term when the Senate is held by the opposition. That still leaves Obama executive actions, but with the Supreme Court decision the other day he won't even be able to do temporary recess appointments.
I've heard the robocall and it's positively slimy, but I expect the worst from politicians. It doesn't surprise me that a 30+ year Senate veteran feels entitled enough to do this sort of thing. The only thing I really care about is that Cochran votes for a Republican for majority leader, which he will do - and that ends Reid's reign and goes a long way to truly making Obama a lame duck.
Preferably we would have gotten a good candidate like McDaniel who could have positively advanced the conservative cause. Short of that, all that matters is numbers. What counts is how Cochran votes. If Cochran were an axe murdering demon from hell, he'd still be better than Childers so long as he votes the right way. I know that's mercenary and machiavellian, but politics is an very ugly sport. Always has been, always will be. Heck, in the end I won't be surprised if Chris McDaniel himself eventually got behind Cochran. That may seem unlikely at this moment in time, but deals will be done, promises made, etc, and for most politicians the ends can be made to justify the means.
“that if you turn yourselves into Democrats and vote with them”
Did you listen to that phone call?
Yes or no?
