I really think this a mole hill. Yes the chopper should have known where it was at and yes it should not have fired on our guys .... but ...
only two shots fired and the chopper disengaged right away and Mexico apologized. Considering that the action took place in the half light of early morning and having been an Infantryman on a helicopter, I can tell you it is easy to make a mistake.
This isn’t the first time they made this mistake. Sounds like a good diversion for our Border Patrol so some drugs/illegals can sneak in.
BULLSH!T!!! If shots were fired at our border agents or ANYONE ELSE for that matter, Mexico should feel the heat.
There’s a dirt road that parallels the border and crossing it put these invaders in the USA. ANY shots fired is UNACCEPTABLE.
That a US Marine is being held in a Mexican prison for mistakenly crossing into that sh!thole of a country, which is magnitudes less of a direct action than this flagrant border crossing, is all the more reason to be outraged.
The view from a helo is without equal. I spent some time in Army UH-1’s, UH-60’s, CH-47’s & CH-54’s & Marine CH-53’s. It is demonstrative of a feckless occupier of the White House, and a total lack of respect for the USA.
Here’s a link to a publicly obtained map with a clear view of the border south of San Miguel, AZ. There’s even a vehicle visible on the road when viewed using the satellite option. Any military aircrew should have at least comparable information at their disposal.

So what did the Mexicans think they were firing at if not the US Border Patrol?
What, exactly, where was the chopper shooting at? It is not an “easy mistake to make”. The border is not a combat zone for which choppers just open fire.
Did you often fire your weapon before you had positively identified your target? Did you often fire at people who hadn’t fired at you first?
If you made a practice of that on board any aircraft I commanded I’d have tossed your ass out the door.
