Pearl Harbor is a shared portion of WWII. China suffered greatly under Japanese occupation. My DIL often wonders why so much emphasis is placed on Germany’s continuing culpability over the Jewish people but the world forgets the horror the Chinese suffered. She thinks Japan is allowed to forget.

Yup. She’s Chinese.

Horror was not visited upon just China but everywhere the “Little People” were an occupying or colonial force. One of my earliest recollections of war is a 1937 photo of a Chinese baby crying in the streets of Shanghai after a Japanese air raid. Anecdotally, an Australian friend once told me of their childhood prayers including special intentions to prevent a Japanese invasion. In years long past, German friends that were children or adolescents at war’s end expressed great frustration at the real or self-imposed guilt heaped upon them.
On the other side of the coin, the World has an unconscionable lapse of memory regarding the gross inhumanity of the Chinese government toward their own citizens since 1949.
What’s a mother to do…
