Mitch McConnell, the NRSC and the Chamber of Commerce went all in for moderate Thad Cochran in Mississippi (57% conservative rating with Heritage Action):
Back in Washington, Cochrans most important allies resolved to muffle their anxiety and stick with him for another three weeks. The Chamber of Commerce polled the race, concluded the senator had a difficult but viable path to victory; the group began brainstorming inventive ways to make a splash in the state, culminating with a sensational commercial starring NFL legend Brett Favre. National Republican Senatorial Committee political director Ward Baker, confronted with Beltway pessimism about Cochrans chances, repeatedly told Republicans in D.C.: We dont leave our people on the field.
But it took 35K Democrats to push him past grassroots challenger Chris McDaniel:
Surprisingly, more votes were cast in the runoff than in the June 3 primary. McDaniel increased his vote from 155,000 on June 3 to 184,600 last night. But the 25-35,000 Dems who crossed over to vote for Cochran gave him the extra margin to surpass his opponent.
This is more reason for Chris McDaniel to run as a write-in candidate in the general election.

Good job! Way to go.
It was the dirtiest of dirty pool. It broke laws (walking around money), it encouraged the breaking of laws (voting for a candidate you don’t intend to support, and voting in the dem primary then voting in the gop runoff), it used blatant race-baiting, slander and liable - which are unethical in the extreme.
Yes it was dirty pool.
You’re probably right. The shortsightedness of the Rove/Barbour strategy is astounding. They threw everything away to get one creaky old Ruling Classer back to DC. They’re like children trying to play chess yet unable to think beyond the move at hand. ‘Hey, let’s take the queen!’
They do so.
Next move, checkmate. They lose.
WRONG strategy. The ONLY message it will send is that the Dem is wildly popular.
The republican party needs to be destroyed, it is too heavily infested with vermin, and extermination is not possible. Burn the party down and let a true, conservative party rise.
THAT is worth voting dem, in order to accomplish.
And, destroying the corrupt gop is the only possible chance we have to save our country.
rerun
I disagree.
Actions have consequences and I have had it with supporting RINOs. They are evry bit as much the enemy as the Dems.
For what it’s worth, maybe not much.......

According to state law, write-in candidates are permitted only as the legitimate substitute
of a candidate who has died, resigned, withdrawn or been removed from the race.
That applies to every race, whether its a primary, special or general election at
any level of government, said Pamela Weaver, communications director of the secretary of
states office.
But every election ballot includes a space for write-in candidates, whether or not one
is needed for that race. Its there just in case a write-in does become eligible.
And thats perhaps where the confusion occurs, since some people see the space and assume
write-ins are allowed in all elections.

Mississippi Code: 23-15-365

Can charges be levied against Cochran or the GOPe for breaking Mississippi law?
Just do it anyway.
There are only democrats running.
I can’t think of a strategy - other than the Buckley strategy, that would ruin the GOPe.
They don’t mind being the minority - in fact they seem to enjoy the cover. At least MS brought them out of hiding. They showed themselves for the disgusting creatures they are.
I just don’t think I can bring myself to ever vote for a rat because I think the GOPe wouldn’t mind. And I do have a conscience.
Or - enjoy an eternity of Grahams and McCains and McConnells and Boehners and Cochrans and John Roberts.
This despicable behavior in the MS runoff deserves destruction. Until the gop is destroyed, our country is dying. Once the cancerous party is removed, there is a chance.
The sooner we apply chemo and radiation the better the chance of recovery. Think of Harry Reid as chemo, Nancy Pelosi as radiation.
Destroy the gop, then raise up a party that is willing to fight the dems - or keep the old festering party playing footsy with Harry under the table while fooling the folks like you into believing they oppose socialism.
Easy choice for me.
It’s not shooting MYSELF in the head - I’m not one of the lying, stinking, putrid, sell-out party.
If Cochran jeopardized black democrats by possibly enticing them to break election law - especially if bribes can be documented - can he be removed from the race?
You KNOW Team Barbour didn’t fully explain what the risks were for the crossover blacks.
Yes, the points in giving the seat to a dem are:
A more conservative senate.
Helping the destruction of the gop.
Both are worthy goals.
We are in this mess because people fail to consider what they are voting FOR -- they're so enmeshed in this too-clever-by-half game of voting "against," of attempting to sending a ridiculously cryptic message expecting the powers that be to read some other motive into your vote.
Then when what they voted FOR in order to vote "against" and "send a message" gets in office and enacts his liberal agenda, things go sideways. ELECTED politicians are ultimately the source of this mess, so when we vote, we must ONLY vote prepared to be accountable for what our guy will do IF HE WINS.
Voting in terms of what the other guy will do if he wins, is PROVEN to be a destructive, losing strategy.
The only thing that counts is what you vote FOR. Period!
If all the conservatives quit voting gop, and voted dem instead, it would gut the party and it would die the ignoble death of a Whig.
I have no idea about what penalities could be imposed if fraud is found. I’m sure they are
provided for somewhere in the MS Code.
Another thing that I’ve found is that the primary numbers aren’t near the numbers that can be
expected in general election. I don’t where all these other voters come from and why they
only vote in the general.
example:
Numbers need to be kept front and center to gauge the expections, imo. The expected
turnout for the general will be somewhere around 1.2 million votes using historical
data. In 2010 Sen. Wicker won with just over 700,000 votes about 57%. In 2008 Sen. Cochran
won with over 760,000 votes about 64%.
The GOP runoff on June 24 had just over 370,000 votes or about 1/2 of the votes that could
be expected from the winner in the general. Where the additional votes will come from
and how they will vote is the biggest question.
Yes, the country is in trouble. But the gop is actually the cancer that put us in trouble. They had their chance, but used it to act like dems instead, accelerating our decline.
Now is EXACTLY the time to dump this traitorous pretense of a party. It is impossible to pull the country out of its tailspin using the very folks that sent us into that spin.
Destruction is the purpose - the gop needs destroyed - they are a cancer on our nation.
