Berkeley grades SUPER hard but is EXTREMELY active with affirmative action:

This means MANY minorities start out at UCB but cannot hack it and drop out —we hear of this pattern elsewhere but this path is very, very, very well-trod at Cal.

I suspect it will not hurt that she’s an Obama, but…I dunno —they really take pride in grading people hard, there, especially in engineering, etc.

I think blacks, etc, drop out of Berkeley at a rate of maybe 90% or something.

I knew that people in NY looked down on us. I've read my share of Joan Didion to know that even a woman as educated and literate as her was looked down on until she made the move to NY.
