Battling for his political survival, six-term Mississippi Sen. Thad Cochran narrowly edged out challenger state Sen. Chris McDaniel for the win in a tight Republican runoff race that was too close to call for much of the night.

CNN is covering this now, and making some of the most vapid analysis imaginable. Gloria Borger actually focused on the narrative that Cochran was so smart to have encouraged democrats and black voters to support him in order to keep McDaniel out, as if this was some sort of brilliant strategy for Republicans to engage in. Sheer stupidity, since in a general election, not one of those crossover voters will actually vote for a Republican. I just cannot believe they are putting this level of commentary out on national TV.

Thad won by roughly 7,000 votes tonight. Hinds county is roughly 75% Dem. A robo call went out stating “say no to the tea party. They hate the first black president... say no to the tea party by voting for Thad”

The call was placed mainly to african americans in MS

Here are the number from the main targeted county.. Hinds:

On June 3rd

T. Cochran (i)
65.7%
10,928

C. McDaniel
33.8%
5,621

TONIGHT:

T. Cochran (i)
72.0%
17,927

C. McDaniel
28.0%
6,962

Total vote count with 99.8% reporting:

189,355 thad
182,756 McDaniel

This race is the GOP Establishment giving conservatives the middle finger, AGAIN!

How much do think we are going to take?

Well, it’s done. Cochran retires in eighteen months...the governor picks the insider with no reputation...and things just keep going on. I think if I were a Tea Party individual in Mississippi....I’d remember this and put myself into the middle of mess on every single occasion. The only way that Cochran won...was by getting Democrats into the primary...so I’d make them sweat this out on every single race possible.

Unbelievably, it seems the mainstream media narrative will be that this was some great victory for the GOP establishment, and a crippling defeat for the tea party and conservatives. Here you have a sitting Senator who has been in the seat for 36 years and barely squeaks out a win.

Cochran did not win the Republican vote. It’s a hollow victory because McDaniel actually won the Republican vote, should have won the primary if it had been fair.

And those horrible phone calls should go viral, this is how these power-crazed liberals win. I think power-crazed liberals should be our new mantra to counter “right-wing extremist”

Cochran retires in eighteen months

He might be out sooner if conservatives go fishing on Election Day in November.

Barely squeaks out a win in a state that relies heavily on federal dollars. Military bases, contractors, etc. Someone on the local news feed there said 40%+ of the money coming into the state was from the feds.

And they still had to cheat to win this race.

Or if they vote for the Democrat out of spite. I would.

That may be what it takes. It may be the only way to get republicans to work with conservatives.

I really don’t want to be a member of a party that nominates people like Thad, Lindsey, or Mitch.

Sickening. Not the CNN commentary, that’s expected. Sickening that a Republican had to go begging for RAT votes to win (barely) a runoff. Sorry, but I hope Cochran loses in the general. This behavior should not be rewarded.

We need to remember that time is on our side. Did the GOPe get any younger? Did Cochran fix the debt? Will he balance the budget? Will the democrats? This is the last gasp of the GOPe. We’re not beaten, but sometimes we need to catch our breath and reload.
