The U.S. should elect a female president "as soon as possible," first lady Michelle Obama said Monday.
"You know, I think this country is ready this country is ready for anyone who can do that job," the first lady said while speaking at a working families summit in Washington.
Obama said the country had learned a president didn't need to have a particular race, gender, or background. "The person who should do the job is the person who is most qualified and we have some options, don't we?" Obama said, drawing loud applause.
While the first lady's comments fell short of an endorsement, they're sure to be read as a nod toward the Democratic presidential primary, where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is widely considered the frontrunner for the nomination.
The White House has steadfastly refused to wade into speculation about the 2016 presidential race, with Vice President Joe Biden also likely to compete for the nomination.
Last month, President Obama said Clinton would be a "very effective" president if she were to run but also made a point to mention his vice president.
"I know that if she were to run for president, I think she'd be very effective at that," he during an appearance on "Live with Kelly and Michael." "I've been blessed to have some people around me like her, and Vice President Biden, and my chief of staff who are just great, hardworking effective people and I love them to death."
But the first lady says she knows one person who won't be on the ballot in 2016: herself.
Asked about her post-presidential plans, Obama said whatever she decided to do "definitely will not be" political in nature.
"It will be mission-based and it will be service focused," Obama said.
As soon as possible. If she says so, let’s do it today.
It kind of sounds like she’s kind of bashing the man we have in office now.
According to Obama...it should be Michelle.
If Barack Hussein Obama got his gender bent and name changed to Barrie Suzzein Obama, can he run again as a born again American?
Ack!
Look on the bright side: We would only have to pay the President $280,000 a year and not the 400K a man makes.
Perfect! I hope she keeps saying it. Every time she does, the electorate will think of her! Psychological conditioning. Soon, they’ll shudder visibly at the thought of her, or Hillary!
and I think we should elect a white, chrisitan, male as soon as possible. that’s whats great about America, we can all have our opinions.
“Elect me, the communist harpy!” -manhands Michelle.
The way the parties run this you would think you were voting for class president instead.
It’s females who elected THIS miserable president. So much for their good judgment!
Sorry Mooch but Hellary was already a president. Just ask Slick Will....
I’m sure Barack would be happy to be the first lady. That would give her a lot more time on the golf course.
Oh sure but not just any woman. She must be part black, part hispanic, part asian, part native Indian, part lesbian, and a full blown Lieberal. Heck she would even qualify for Queen of the USA.(Less the beauty part of course)
We also elected a black man as president...just because.
The black man we elected president is the smartest black man to ever walk the earth.
And what happened?
He is the regarded as the worst president in the history of the US. He is far worse that George W. bush, who according to Liberals is the dumbest white man to ever walk the earth.
According to Liberals, dumb white people make better presidents than highly intelligent black people.
Now, Liberals think we should have a women president...just because.
According to Liberals, Hillary Clinton is the smartest woman ever to walk the earth.
Seeing how well Hillary has done as Secretary of State, I shutter to think of the damage she would do as president.
She is endorsing herself.
Sasquatch WILL run for President. Watch.....they are laying the groundwork.
They are making fun of Hitlary. She will be damaged goods, paving the way for The Wookie.
