I agree with the premise that background checks do not and have not prevented tragedies like this.
I do wonder where he kept the rifle that it could be so easily stolen? Was he propping open a door with it?
I am paranoid enough that I keep my firearms secure. I would never want to enable a nut-job or a gang banger using a weapon of mine.

Perhaps a little reading would be advisable.

Some of BB articles are not very professional.
I keep mine in a five foot safe. A professional burglar would take about 15 minutes to empty my safe and get away with what's left of my collection (after that incredible boating accident).
Just how secure to you think your guns are?
