In America, the government just says they are no longer part of the workforce. Same scam, different language.
The reality is we have Great Depression level unemployment if measured honestly.
The US has also shifted them to the ranks of the sick. Social Security Disability is up to 11 million + almost as many people as there are in all of Cuba. When unemployment runs out and people have no job, some go to doctors with various problems and get declared disabled. Parents take their children with ADD/ADHD and various other non-physical challenges and get them signed up for monthly “crazy” checks, which are payments for those with mental disabilities, in order to make ends meet. So yes, we are paying people to exist just as the British people do.
