I think ISIS, as such, is one of the less likely groups to attack the US here. They are ideologically focused on attacking Shia and insufficiently fanatical Sunnis more than infidels. Their notion is to unite Islam first, as bloodily as possible, then turn the united forces of Islam on the Great Satan.
A quite literally insane plan. The disproportion of forces is far greater between Unitd Islam and the United States than it was between the USA and Japan in 1941.
However, I think your basic argument is correct. The successes of ISIS will encourage jihadists of various types around the world to attack America and Americans.
Obama’s agenda is to never let a crisis go to waste. A terror attack against the US in his mind is a perfect crisis.
