TOPEKA Visitors will be allowed to bring concealed guns into the Kansas Statehouse starting in July because legislative leaders on Thursday refused to exercise the power granted to them by state law to prevent it.
The change is part of a measure enacted last year, aimed at allowing holders of concealed carry permits to take their weapons into more public buildings. That law said top lawmakers could block Capitol visitors from carrying concealed if they acted but only this month and declared that the buildings security is adequate to keep all firearms out.
The top seven legislative leaders convened Thursday to handle administrative tasks in their last regular monthly meeting before the deadline. They had a short, general briefing on security matters and adjourned without any discussion of the coming change on concealed guns ensuring that visitors will soon be allowed to bring them inside.

The Kansas City Red Star threw a royal fit. I haven’t looked at the Eagle yet.
If you ban guns in your establishment, then you have assumed liability for anything that happens. If someone shows up and tries to shoot up the place, then it’s on you to prevent it, because you have prevented me from being able to defend myself.
“Allowed”
I hate that word.
So right you are. Gun free zones = suicide by capitulation.
So, Kansas now following the example set by Texas. Good.
There is nothing more hypocritical than state legislatures that mandate concealed carry everywhere...except where they are. I wish the Missouri legislature would do the same.
I’m in the Texas capitol building all the time, and it’s so convenient to enter through the CHL checkpoint rather than stand in line with busloads of school kids waiting to go through the metal detectors; get wanded by troopers; and, emptying their pockets, etc. Just go to the CHL stand; hand your CHL to the trooper; he swipes it and says, “Welcome to the Capitol, Mr. _____________.” That’s it.
I have not kept count of how many comments I have read from those who push for a disarmed population, that legislators are hypocrites who “mandate” guns in other places but will not allow guns in the capitol.
In Kansas, the legislators stood by principle and lead by example, and are castigated for it.
