On a national scale, solar and wind are more or less non factors in the generation of power. And what small amount of power they do generate costs much, much more to produce than coal, gas, hydro and nuclear.

They are more or less toys for liberals.

... that liberals and non-liberals alike pay for with electricity rates that are (to coin a phrase) 'necessarily skyrocketing'.

You know, the worst thing financially for the US, would be developing a successful alternative energy source. If the world ever did shift away from petroleum as a primary source of fuel, there would be no reason for the US dollar to remain the world’s reserve currency. Once the largest commodity didn’t have to be exchanged in dollars, the US government would be at the mercy of the rest of the world.
