Soon, biblical churches will be deemed “disparaging” and will be criminalized. Count on it.

ISIS is closing in on Baghdad, but POTUS can prioritize have “HIS” patent office pull the trademarks of a nearly 100 year old organization because HE deems the name “offensive” and/or “disparaging.” Total abuse of power by a petty little dictator.

Take that one to the Supreme Court. This government by force is way past being absurd.

I can’t see where the gov has moral, ethical or legal standing to deny a renewal. Not sure I can see this for a new patent either, but a little more understandable I think.

Can we get someone named McCarthy or O’Brian to sue to get the “Fighting Irish” trademark rescinded?

I could use some cheap Notre Dame logo gear.

The ruling was made because the terms were found disparaging at the time they were registered.

The team was established in 1932.

Did they really find someone (alive now) who was "disparaged" by the name 82 years ago? Why did it take so long for the disparaged person to come forward?

Can a person be retroactively "disparaged." If so, I'd like to stake a claim on the name "Obama." It has been disparaging me for more than six years.

I think someone needs to assign some readings to our bureaucrats as to the meaning of “ex post facto”. I hope (but doubt) that the teams owners take it to court, as I see no authority to do any such thing.

I wonder if the Cleveland Browns are going to be similarly affected. Is it a modern day cultural sin to name your team after a famous Negro boxer?
