Totally agree except for the Guest Worker Gambit.
I think that will create a permanent underclass of exploited foreign workers, exacerbating the existing problem of unassimilable ghettos.
If we need more workers, we should give preferance to people willing to come here LEGALLY and who want to be American Citizens - along with all that entails, including accepting our value system and learning our language and paying our taxxes.
So, what ever happened to the Bracero Program of the 1950’s? It was working fine until the unions destroyed it.
I know very little about agriculture (I'm a city boy from the Northeast) but I've heard it said over...and over...and over again that farms and orchards need many people to do backbreaking physical work that pays very little.Assuming this is true there are only two solutions that I can see...a "guest worker" program or increase the pay and improve the working conditions for those who do this work substantially.I,personally.would be willing to pay more for my broccoli and my oranges if it helped get illegals out but would that solution work? I honestly don't know.
We don’t need more low-skill workers for decades, at least, and probably we won’t ever again need more.
