The “mission accomplished” sign had nothing to do with Bush.
It was an aircraft carrier coming back home from a long tour of duty and the sign was for the sailors coming home. It was to honor them that they had accomplished their mission.
The twisting of the story since is just plain evil.

"The mission accomplished sign had nothing to do with Bush."
Yes, I left that out. If I recall, the sign was put up by Navy staff, not Bush's people. I was reminded of another Bush smear the other day when I was leafing through former Defense Secretary Gates's book "Duty." How many times did the press tell us that Bush was "uncurious" and never read any books? Over and over. The fact is - attested by many, including Gates - is that Bush was - and is - an avid reader. But the press never let the facts get in the way of a useful stereotype. (I remember right after Obama was elected, Paul McCartney said, "It will be nice for America to have a president who can read," or something to that effect.) And guess who is bi-lingual - Obama, or Bush? The "moron" Bush, of course, not the "genius" Obama.
