We gave the Iraqis the best shot they would ever get to emerge from the dark ages. They have decided which way they want to go. Now there will be fewer of them.
You are correct. No matter if the sunni win or the shiite win the worst people will win. They are all moslems. The wisdom in the article is that they are killing each other off leaving fewer that we will have to kill. Any time a moslem dies it is a good thing. If he dies while killing more moslems it is a great thing.
Get our huge billion dollar embassy closed. Then let them kill each other. Sounds good to me. It will be fun to watch the Saudis squirm.
NEXT problem.
Just another bunch of Islamic nuts - killing each other but a lot more wary of offending us.
Its much easier to conquer territory than to occupy it. Occupiers, regardless of motivation soon wear out their welcome and a people only changes its thinking when it really wants to.
But mine it before leaving, wait for the overrun, and detonate with glee!
If they are not fighting themselves then they will be fighting us somewhere closer to home.
I hope our military and intelligence communities are thinking the unthinkable and I hope the prevention of the next attack starts at the mexican border.
Iran is already in country helping their Shia brothers.
Who will come to the aid of their Sunni brothers?
What role will the Kurds play?
As long as we get our embassy people out of harms way I don’t care what happens in Iraq. Muslims killing muslims is a win win.
“You are correct, sir.”
Yes, not one more drop of our blood or penny of our treasury. Let these Mofo cretins go about killing each other. This country has not been in a single war since WWII that has been ultimately worth the cost. Further, I am tired of the US stationing troops all over the world so the a$$holes in whose countries they are located can have a “free” police force to protect them. If Germany wants us to keep troops there, they should pay the entire bill. Ditto for South Korea and Japan. Keep our airbases, but $hitcan the rest of it.
Ummm ... Muslims are being killed right along with everyone else!
They are their own independent kind ... :-) ...
Quoting ...
Before the spread of Abrahamic religions, many Kurds were followers of Zoroastrianism, Mithraism, or local pagan beliefs. Kurds were assimilating these religious practices into their cultural domain as early as 800 BCE. Arab conquests, however, began in the seventh century AD, eventually overpowering Kurdish resistance.
Over time, Sunni Islam became the dominant religion of the Kurdish people, following the Shafi school. There is a minority Shia population, the Fayli Kurds, who live in central and south eastern Iraq. Though Islam is thought to be a religion of governance as well as spirituality, Kurds made sure to keep spiritual identity separate from national identity. Today, many Muslim Kurds do not consider themselves particularly religious when it comes to adhering to the call to prayer five times a day, but secondary practices of Islam have a stronghold in Kurdish culture. Following Islamic food restrictions, refraining for alcohol consumption, circumcising male newborns, and wearing a veil are all very popular customs to follow.
A minority of Kurds, primarily in the Nineveh Province of Iraq, follow the Yazidism. Yazidism combines complex Kurdish cultural beliefs with Zoroastrianism and Islamic Sufi doctrine. It applies traditions of the Abrahamic religions such as the story of Adam and Eve, the importance of pilgrimage, and daily prayer ritual, to more mystical elements, focusing on the importance of ancestry and the four elements on the Earth. The religion is practiced in the Kurdish dialect of northern Iraqi Kurdistan, Kirmaji. Most Yazidi traditions are transmitted orally rather than through written text, making it difficult to source many Yazidi origins.

Independent. Support their formation of an independent state and they’ll be your ally forever, like Israel. They should also have their share of the oil over there.
