Xinhua) -- U.S. President Barack Obama is in a tough spot as Islamic militants sweep across northern Iraq, overtaking two major cities as tens of thousands of Iraqi government troops reportedly abandon their posts.
Fighters from the Sunni group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are reportedly beheading victims in a bid to instill fear as they sweep through the country's north, and have vowed to attack the national capital city of Baghdad.
The mayhem puts Obama in a sticky position. After more than a decade of wars in the Middle East, trillions of taxpayer dollars spent and the deaths of nearly 5,000 U.S. troops, war-weary Americans are wary of more involvement in the volatile region.
But at the same time, foreign policy circles fret that Islamic radicals could gain a foothold in a country they could use as a base to launch terror strikes against the U.S., as al-Qaeda did when it used Afghanistan as a launching pad to strike New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Chinese press is calling them what they are - "Islamic radicals" rather than the New York Times favored 'extremist' which is intentionally designed to confuse with 'Tea Party' members... Is every press in the world better than ours?
Time to face hard inconvenient facts. Our great ally Saudi Arabia, the country that fifteen of nineteen of the 9/11 terrorists called home, is directly and indirectly funding these barbaric “Islamists”.
Do liberals do anything except abandon our allies? 4 countries fell to communism in Carter’s term, but when did liberals start complaining? When Reagan came along and actually freed countries from communism. That’s what they called being a tyrant.

Just got back from tube, and none of this is being covered by CNN, Fox, or MSNBC. Very strange.
I don’t believe it. How can he be in a tough spot when it’s Bush’s fault. obama has no blame, so there fore has no need to “fix” the problem.

This is bull$hit. Great Leader with his NSA can monitor the United States citizens but is taken by surprise by an attempted takeover of Iraq?! These things take a little planning and anyone with a brain and half an intelligence organization could monitor events prior to their unfolding. Great Leader knew this was coming and did nothing to stop it. His ‘tough spot’ is with worsening approval numbers, and nothing more. It is becoming more and more difficult for the average (i.e. head-in-the-sand) American to not notice how the world is going to hell in a hand-basket and how the President is doing Jack-squat (apologies to Jack) for American interests both domestic and foreign.
It wouldn’t take much TV video of cities falling , mass executions, and captured troops being marched down the road by the thousands, hundreds of thousands of refugees, and desperate American evacuations, to put Obama into LBJ declining to run territory.
May be, but even without social media, there should be plenty of phone reports, etc.
