Why I'll never go back to California

California is the embodiment of Margaret Thatcher’s famous quote, “The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” It is depressing that even with the evidence of years of repeated collectivist failure, people keep trying to make a communist silk purse out of a rotting sow’s ear.

Just keep this in mind if you decide to flee the socialist stench of California: Please remember why you left. Don’t Californicate your new home.

"I could not afford to spend most of my Social Security on property taxes."

Prop 13 took care of that if you were there for 20 years. By leaving the State, you surrendered that protection.

Northern CA is nice... Mount Shasta is nice...yes, you are correct. CA got nice areas, too.

I haven’t set foot in California for 20 years and, apart from possibly changing planes at SFO or LAX,I don’t see myself every setting foot there again.Massachusetts is bad...*real* bad....but not quite as bad as The Land Of Fruits And Nuts And Flakes.

Please remember why you left. Don’t Californicate your new home.

Most of these liberals are recent arrivals to California (a couple of generations). They came from New England and the rust belt.

Now that they have ruined California they are moving to the southwest and the northwest.

Rather than stay and fight these carpetbaggers many conservative people choose to take their families elsewhere.

Isn't that exactly what the Iraqi people are doing? Fleeing the battle?

It may be a little late for this state. But the lesson to be learned is: stay invested in local politics, fight every encroachment of socialism/Marxism.

You say you live in the L.A. area and value the “light traffic”? Where in the “L.A. Area” are you?

"The state is overpopulated."

Not true! Everyone is concentrated in SD, LA, or SF, and 'near the coast.' Go elsewhere and California is almost empty. Give the Socialists their head and they will have you living in high rises in cities that they control and nowhere else.

Please don’t move to Georgia. We already have enough NE transplants moving here and then voting to turn our state into the same chitehole they left behind.

... and I’ll never leave Kansas City unless I’m dragged out kicking and screaming.

Or carried off by a tornado. :-P

I am a Canadian, now living in the US. Like most democrats in the USA, it appears to be that liberals in Canada will always vote their party regardless of what the situation is and what is going on re the economy. I am very sorry to hear about the result of the election in Ontario, but I am not surprised.

We just relocated from CA to SC a month ago, and got our first bills for our new house. They are 1/5 and 1/4 what we paid in CA. We lived in an are of Northern CA that was deeply conservative, but there weren’t enough of us to make a difference. We love it here is SC. It is still conservative and people here really speak their minds. Listening to local radio has been quite interesting.

I have never understood why anyone would want to live in a state like CA, or any urban area for that matter.

It is easy to avoid the commie bastards, just avoid urban areas. Move out and starve the bastards!

Look at what happened to Detoilet, all the taxpayers moved out and the rotting corpse died.

If every conservative and moderate would move out of urban areas the liberals left will eat each other alive. The liberals that work will turn conservative damn quick when they are all that is left to support the leeches!

You don’t even have to leave the state, just move out of urban areas, that is where all the liberals are, packed in like rats in a corn crib!

Mount Carmel is incorporated into the town of Orderville. We are just two miles south.

I lived there in the mid 60’s and loved the state and it’s stark beauty. But, as the years went by I kept track of what was going on there since my Mom still lived there. As it got more and more “progressive”, it quickly fell off the list of someplace I wanted to retire. Sad dang situation. Of course when I moved there in ‘63, I don’t think there were a million residents in the entire state. I think ABQ tops that easily now.

Moved from CA to TX 5 years ago for work. Other than missing family, not at all sad. Best thing the world that could happen for the state is to break into smaller states. I would really consider moving back to a state that encompassed most of the Northern Half or even the Easter/Sierra portion.

Not true -- Not in the Central Valley and nearly all of the Sierra Nevada counties. These are very conservative -- not GOPE -- folks. I know that for a fact ... check the election returns especially in Placer, Modoc, El Dorado counties (to name but three).

“The Valley farmers who own a good portion of the land have very little need or respect for “progressive” big government”

Here is the self inflicted wound... Agriculture attracted immigration. Immigration helped move CA left. As of this year Hispanic is the largest percentage of the population. It ain’t ever going back to what it was.

FTR I was born in LA , 3rd generation. Left a year ago. California started going downhill with the 70’s/80’s influx of east coast liberals. Now, other than an over powering Government trying to boss you around in every part of your life and take your money, other influxes made it increasingly difficult to find english speaking areas outside the clutches of elite’s in the beach communities. Sad ending for a beautiful state.
