I care about my view of Mary and Jesus, not their deranged opinions. I'm certainly not going to change their minds or bring them to a realisation of the truth by censoring them. Conversely, this kind of thing is unlikely to affect non-believers in a negative way because all but the utterly immature and foolish can see how childish the whole thing is.
You summed up my feelings exactly. If they were truly the intellectuals they claim to be they would realize that they don’t know for certain if Jesus exists or not and that they might be insulting the very source of their possible salvation.
I would certainly think that if they were the mental giants they are espousing themselves to be (by implying they are athiest and intellectuals that don’t buy into the existence of a “sky god” and that everything can be explained by science), they might understand the concept of The Godel God Thereom or Pascals Wager and how it could apply to them but I doubt it.
Your attitude sounds like the school principal who won't defend a pupil or a boss who won't defend a worker who is being bullied. FReeping is a very specific and effective response to aggression. Airy dismissals when the left has attacked, attacked, attacked -- since the 50s -- are what got this country in the shape it's in. Even Jesus said, "If you won't stand up for me, I won't stand up for you before the Father." Do you think He appreciates this particular form of blasphemy? And by the way, I'm not Catholic.
