I hear an Iraq expert explaain that the terrorists had carefully avoided the Kurdish areas of Mosul. Also that Malaki has been quite vicious to his enemies and Sunnis. Today the chief Shiite cleric in Iraq (Sistani?) urged young men to fight these takeovers. They also captured the Turkish consulate in Mosul and may still be holding the Ambassador’s family. How mad will the Turks get???

Not all that confusing if you look at the historical record. Sunni versus Shiite easy enough
However the country boundaries were drawn by the British and French during and after WWI as the Ottoman Empire fell apart. There was no consideration of ethnic or religious factors. What we are seeing is a reversion to tribal societies as before WWI. Let it happen and stay out of it I say
