The Catholic Church in the middle ages had a 'consensus' about the Sun rotating around the earth.

Maybe Obama will start burning people at the stake who disagree with his man made global warming crap - - - might shore up his 'consensus' for a while longer...

I’m no expert but I’ve read (and believe) that it wasn’t so much the Catholic Church that was up in arms against Copernicus and Galileo, but the ruling scientific establishment of the day. It was the “consensus scientists” of yesteryear who pressured the Catholic Church (or appealed to the Church) to enforce the earth-centered scientific orthodoxy.

If I’m wrong about that, I’d be interesting in hearing otherwise.
