New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said on Friday he disagreed with comments comparing homosexuality to alcoholism made by his potential 2016 Republican rival for the White House, Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Perry, who ran an unsuccessful bid for the White House in 2012, said Wednesday during an appearance in San Francisco that he believed homosexuality was a "lifestyle" and a condition that could be overcome.

"I may have the genetic coding that I'm inclined to be an alcoholic, but I have the desire not to do that," Perry said. "And I look at the homosexual issue in the same way."

Christie, who was in San Francisco on Friday to lend support to California Republican candidates, told reporters he thought the comments were "wrong."

"I'll just say I disagree with them," Christie said. "I don't believe that's an apt analogy and not one that should be made because I think it's wrong."

Perry's comments were met with criticism by gay rights groups and some people in the audience at the Commonwealth Club of California gasped in response, according to the local CBS affiliate.

Perry has strongly opposed the legalization of gay marriage in his state.

Perry is saying IMO that someone may have the predisposition to shop-lift, be violent but can overcome them. Someone may always feel lust toward women but can overcome it and remain faithful to their wife. We are given the will power to overcome all of these deviant urges. If we agree on these things then why can homosexual desires be overcome?

Christie’s working hard to be the next GOP nominee with success comparable to McCain & Romney.

The Politically Correct Death Watch for America continues with discourse on Homosexuals and Abortionists with willing clients. Issues that should be private and the tax payer should not have to support either if the taxpayer cares not to nor should any business be forced to go against personal values by the Politically Correct courts and meddlesome and officious in-your-face nits who want you to pay homage to their base actions.

Count me out.

Chris Christie is a fat, mean, corrupt pig.
As such, of course he is the Republican Establishment pick for the Presidential nomination.
He would be a great foil for Sarah Palin.

I like that Perry is using science to drive the gaymafia crazy.

I'm sure you like that, but Perry's just lost me. I never would have thought he'd compare homosexuality to alcholism. He's shown himself to be an idiot. There's no "science" in what he said.

And I'm not happy to discover that.

How is it idiotic? There are studies which say some individuals have a alcoholic gene— http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/news/20040526/researchers-identify-alcoholism-gene

Perry used that science to advocate for reparative therapy for individuals who want to leave the homosexual lifestyle.
