Unusual witness presses medical-marijuana cause in Pa.
During the last 32 years, stockbroker Irvin Rosenfeld has smoked 130,000 marijuana cigarettes - with the federal government's blessing.
As jaws dropped in a Harrisburg legislative chamber filled with state senators, Rosenfeld made the remark Tuesday and then held up a silver canister containing 300 pre-rolled joints, a month's supply.
He continues to receive the canisters from a government-authorized farm in Mississippi to help treat a rare bone-tumor disorder. This despite the drug's classification by the Drug Enforcement Administration as a top-tier hazardous substance with no medicinal value.
"I'm living proof of the hypocrisy of the federal government," Rosenfeld, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., told the Law and Justice Committee, which is considering a bill to legalize medical marijuana.
If the bill is fast-tracked - some senators said they want it released to the floor by the end of the month - Pennsylvania would vie with several other states to become the 23d to allow cannabis to be sold for medical purposes.

After Rosenfeld spoke, Folmer asked, incredulously, how the federal government could simultaneously classify marijuana as a "schedule I drug [with] no medicinal use" that's not even worth testing, and still supply it to him for medical reasons.
Rosenfeld was approved for the Compassionate Investigative New Drug program in 1982 and then was grandfathered into receiving a continuing supply when the program was shut down a decade later during the government's war on drugs.

His boast has shades of Sandra Fluke’s $3000 a month bill for birth control...
How you can equate a man with a painful, deadly disease using a banned substance to a woman who wants free birth control to insure her continued promiscuity is beyond me.
Boast? He boasted that he is alive when doctors didn’t believe he would live beyond his teen years? That’s not a boast, that is the joy of being alive despite our nanny state. How many people have died because they refuse to recognize beneficial treatment?
Do they care? Of course not. They never did & never will. It is all about power, not morality, honor, compassion.
Do you care that this man & others have survived by means other than government approved treatment? Doesn’t sound like it to me - just another nanny.
32 years affliction does not sound terminal.
What does the drug do for him? Stimulate appetite? Numb the pain? Cure the illness?
The numbers seem a bit high.
Read the article.
"Rosenfeld said he has never gotten high from the 10 joints he smokes daily and believes his body consumes it as a muscle relaxant, pain reliever, and anti-inflammatory agent. Diagnosed when he was 10 with multiple hereditary exostoses, a genetic condition in which painful bone tumors multiply throughout the body, Rosenfeld said his first doctors had warned he might not live past his teenage years. "This is not the harmful drug the government makes it out to be and the government has been lying to us, all these decades," Rosenfeld said in an interview. He underwent several surgeries to remove the tumors and was prescribed a morphine derivative and various other addicting narcotics. While experimenting with cannabis during his college years, he discovered he was able to sit for longer periods without pain and his tumors were decreasing in number."

And many stockbrokers and lawyers are functional.

This guy uses it for its medical benefits - and reports that it doesn't make him high (which is much like the reports of users of prescribed amounts of opioid painkillers).
I am surprised that he claims he never got high. However, I have personally witnessed first time tokers who didn't realize how good they felt until they thought about it. It is a very mild high. Heavy smokers probably get nothing more than a gentle buzz akin to 2 cups of coffee, only more relaxing than stimulating.
I'm also surprised he is smoking the pot rather than eating it. Eating it has always been associated with a "body high" as apposed to a "head high" with smoking it. I would thing eating it would be more effective on the body.
The thing about marijuana is there is a plateau high you reach & can't go beyond, no matter how much more you smoke. That plateau high is drastically reduced for a regular toker. There is some anecdotal evidence that changing varieties smoked will give a better high temporarily.
Rosenfeld might not be getting much of a buzz, but I'll bet he is a very relaxed person.
Very good observation
