They afraid that vets will actually get care after all these decades and push for the dismantling of the government behemoths?

Geez, you wouldn’t actually want these guys to get actual, effective health care. It might make the government look worse, if that is possible.

The purpose of the VA is not and never has been to provide healthcare. It is to provide gummint jobs.

Not only is the purpose of the VA to provide gummint jobs but the “scandal” was manufactured to motivate even more gummint jobs.

If it’s too hard, how about a swap. Move veterans into private care, and politicians/government employees into the VA system.

It’s probably the best way to get the VA cleaned up, truthfully.

So people on welfare get private care but veterans are denied... and then we wonder why this country is bankrupt and not getting investments...

I think as a 2 time Iraqi Vet, VA care should be means tested to lessen the burden on the system. I had a job when I got back from both my tours so I shouldn’t have been offered any medical care

The VA has been contracting with nursing homes for several decades with no major issues. The nursing homes are more than willing because they get a higher payment.

I am a retired military officer and veteran. I am appalled at the callous way Obama has treated veterans. I have dealt with the VA myself, and it is a massive bureaucracy that treats you like a number worse than than anything I have ever seen. But I actually fear that the focus on the VA scandal will only hasten this nation to a single medical system for ALL Americans even quicker than was planned.

I won't say single "payer" because in the system the Democrats want, a majority of those would not pay, or hardly pay, for their medical care. They would not even pay their "fair share." It would simply be the Soviet and Cuban system - very good medical care for the connected and the elite, and horrible medical care for almost everyone else.

I agree.

The VA provides care that is specific to veterans on a regular basis that a civilian hospital can’t.

My VA is much better equipped to deal with my spinal cord injury, and the prosthetics, physical therapy and other related issues, than any civilian hospital can do.

The purpose of the VA is not and never has been to provide healthcare. It is to provide gummint jobs.

The problem right now is, in my humble opinion, in part BECAUSE of the excess number of union employees currently bloating the system at the top.

If one of your family members worked at the VA, you can get a job working there with little to no problem, regardless of qualification.

And once there, the union will protect you from being let go.

It's a federal jobs program for people who are owed a favor for their support of the Establishment.

And the bigger the city the VA is in, the bigger the problem.

Gallup just released a poll on the VA scandals. 11% say the solution is to “Fire all employees of VA”, which is much higher than I might have guessed.

You get it! Referring vets to private care is a huge thumb in the eye to Obamacare and will serve as the basis for ultimately repealing it.

Watch for Obama to denounce the just-passed Vets’ Care Act.

——fully integrated health care system-——

The full integration is the problem

There is healthcare and then there is healthcare. Much of the need is not so specific as to require the special war wound, recuperation, treatment etc the VA can provide. It is the ordinary stuff that can be vouchered thus taking the pressure off the VA special knowledge and services.

The bugaboo is of course, separating the two
