That has been my opinion for a long time and it's supported by plenty of historical evidence. Commies despise the middle class as it threatens the power hierarchy that communism seeks to create: the political elite and everybody else. Middle class folks like to talk about their rights and their constitutions and that kind of thing is wholly incompatible with socialist revolutions.

Marx is very front and center about what he thinks of the middle class. He starts on page #1 talking about how evil they are and how they should be destroyed.
