When in 2011 President Obama announced, against the advice of his commanders, the complete withdrawal of all US forces from Iraq, he grandly declared the tide of war is receding.
Two days later, his secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, answered critics such as John McCain, who said the presidents announcement was a victory for Iran.
Said Mrs. Clinton: No one, most particularly Iran, should miscalculate about our continuing commitment to and with the Iraqis going forward.
This week these promises have been rendered hollow by the humanitarian and strategic crisis unfolding in Iraq. There, key northern cities have been falling to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, an offshoot of al Qaeda.
The horrors we are seeing fulfill some of the worst fears of critics who had warned that leaving Iraq without a new status of forces agreement imperiled the gains bought with American blood and treasure.

The presidents practice has been to blame his failures on his predecessor. But in Iraq, President George W. Bush did not hand over a mess. He handed over a victory that Obama only had to sustain.
All that the President has squandered in a humiliation for America, a vindication for al Qaeda, a gain for Iran and a catastrophe for long-suffering Iraqis caught in the violence.

This editorial nails it. Obama owns the present debacle.
This editorial is very wrong.
Iran is not the problem and may even end up being the cavalry coming to Iraq’s rescue.
Neither Hillary or Obama said anything about a revitalized al-Qaeda insurgency funded , trained, armed , equipped and supported by the United States (under orders from Hillary and Obama) and the Gulf Oil States, especially Qatar, taking over Iraq
B. Hussien Obama: The first POTUS who was a product of the post WW2 College professors and look how well it worked out. Starting in the early to mid 70s all those WW2 era Professors started retiring and were replaced with hippies, hard core communists and terrorists, and this is the result. And ladies and gentlemen the best part is we can expect more of this crap in leadership positions.
I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change , it is now time to change the things I cannot accept .
Iran is not the problem and may even end up being the cavalry coming to Iraqs rescue.
The editorial says as much. Quote:
Tehran has deployed its Revolutionary Guard to help the Shia-led government in Baghdad fight off the Sunni ISIS. What an irony: If the government of Iraq does survive, it will owe Iran more than Uncle Sam.Did you read the whole thing?
And regardless of who supports ISIS, obama's still at fault for withdrawing prematurely and not leaving at least a token force in Iraq.
So you think that because it is Sunni fighters that Iran will intervene to help the Shiite govt. faction? Or might they wait until it gets really bad and then just march in? Also, is this happening in the Kurdish areas or just the areas with Sunni strength?
“Obama owns the present debacle.”
He allowed this to distract from the Bergdahl prisoner swap, which covered up the VA scandal, which distracted from the Benghazi scandal, which distracted the NSA scandal, which distracted from the the Obamacare scandal, which covered up the F&F scandal....
Hearing bits and pieces out of Kurdish areas gleeaikin. Not much to go on. You hearing or reading anything?
That’s like hoping the Nazis rescue you from the Soviets and you’re a Rabbi...
However, while Qatar and SA are Sunni, SA has certainly had its own terrorist problems. Until we have a better sense of the flavor of Islam desired by the terrorists it is hard to figure who will end up supporting who.
This morning’s WSJ said the Kurds are defending their own areas, IIRC.
They are not counting on Obama
Any mention of iran coming through Kurdish areas?
No.
He suffers from something affecting most male leftists -— premature capitulation.
Obama has decided to surrender, but he is waiting to find out who he should surrender to.
In the meantime, he will be assessing options, five iron or utility club.
We fought a war. We earned the right to set the terms.
