Pete Sessions Pushes Border Security in House Majority Leader Race

As Republican House members filed into the basement meeting room to say goodbye to Eric Cantor, they pushed past reporters in the packed hallway, largely ignoring shouted questions about the race for Republican Majority Leader.

But Texas Representative Pete Sessions strode up to the cameras and explained why he was the best candidate.

“There he goes,” one House member muttered as he witnessed the scene. Other congressmen in the hall chuckled in response.

Sessions couldn’t have made it any clearer why he was running: to send a message to the White House on immigration reform.

For Sessions it was likely a clear conclusion from Cantor’s loss. The anti-amnesty critics faulted Cantor for vowing to work with the Obama administration on immigration reform, and Cantor lost his primary.

"I think this administration needs to be prodded and reminded that the entire sovereignty of the United States is at risk if we do not secure our border--north, south, east, and west,” Sessions told reporters. “The things which are occurring at our border must be stopped and must be controlled before we do anything else that encourages people to come here."

Sessions just recently beat a Tea Party challenger in his own primary who campaigned against him for his immigration stance.

Katrina Pierson, who was endorsed by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, challenged Sessions for endorsing "a guest worker program,” which would allow illegal immigrants to obtain legal status.

“Border security, border security, and border security,” he told Washington Post reporter Robert Costa in an interview on his run in the race for House leadership.

“After Cantor’s defeat and the destruction wrought on GOPe in the TX primaries perhaps Sessions can be kept in check.”

I think that’s exactly right. Who in California would hold McCarthy in check. And who has thus far?? They’re all liberals and encourage moderation and betrayal of conservatives. He’ll be protected.

Texans won’t stand for betrayals.

Fear for Texas on immigration, if Pete Sessions rides in. There is even screen footage of his disdain for fellow conservatives in the House and he was, is not now, and shall not be found as a friend to Cruz.

Nevermind that Pete is regularly confused with the conservative Jeff Sessions (AL) in the senate, and unfortunately rides that confusion to his advantage in the public by happen stance.

The border must be secured. Pete will say so. Then he will build a little coalition to continue entertaining the discussion on “immigration reform” exactly like Cantor and McCarthy and Boehner.

It seems self defeating to get played by the “R’s”. Token Red state representation is no real gain if he is no friend to conservatives. Be assured there is no gain for conservatives with Empty Pistol Pete.

I’m starting to wonder that the Pete types are as bad as the McCarthy types.

Should we or shouldn’t we be for Hensarling alone or no one? If Hensarlng won’t run, then let the wolf be known in the form of McCarthy. A dilemma.

This is a good time for a snail mail bombardment of every Republican and news outlet. These letters should demand that Boehner and McConnell step down now. Demand a tea party member elected in 2010 or 2012 replace them both. Cruz for minority leader and Gowdy for speaker.

Failure to obey us means the instant destruction of the republican party as we will vote for the demorats to broom the losers out. No compromize, no retreat.

That is my sentiment.

I believe it was Cruz who was first to brightly point out that Republican leadership is composed of strictly BLUE state representatives, ignoring that it was the RED state conservatives who put their netherregion into the coveted majority in the first place, and without reward. I get the point and it is an excellent one.

Empty Pistol Pete will get sold as a conservative and he does not deserve the label. The man is a climber first before anything else, very probably a Cornyn wanna-be.

What about Louie Gohmert? He and Jeb Hensarling might be a great duo at the top of the House.

I have already sent a letter to my congress critter asking him to vote for Louie Gohmert. Pete Sessions would be a back stabbing disaster.

I have told my Rep that McCarthy - or anyone presently in the House GOP leadership - is not acceptable; that if he votes for one such I will not vote for him and will actively oppose him in the next primary. The reply, of course, was a bunch of meally-mouthed “well, I’ll keep an open mind.”
