Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army sergeant captured in Afghanistan and held for nearly five years before being traded for five top Taliban operatives, was discharged from the Coast Guard before he joined the Army, Fox News confirmed.
An Army spokesman did not confirm reports that Bergdahl's discharge was due to psychological reasons or elaborate on the circumstances leading to his ouster in 2006.
"We did confirm that Bergdahl was administratively discharged from the USCG prior to his enlistment to the U.S. Army, the spokesman said.

I used to hear the Coast Guard required applicants to be over 6’ tall so if the boat sank they could walk to shore.
How can that possibly be true?!? The Presstitutes insist that the family are staunch Calvinists!
Presstitutes wouldn't lie to the public, would they?
“It is uncommon for the US Army to take anyone that has been kicked out of another service”
Actually, I was disappointed when we started getting Marine rejects in the Army (mid 1990’s). Essentially the Marines had a big house cleaning after the first Gulf War (up or out)...and the Army started taking then.
We got two of them - very similar: initially very impressive, but then cracks in the façade started to show, and they turned out to be a mistake.
Just short snippets of him seem to me that he has some sort of developmental disorder. He seems very childlike.
I didnt know that. I guess Hollywood fooled me into thinking they took anyone.
Thanks

Your welcome
I am disappointed/disgusted at the ignorance of the United States Coast Guard on this thread.
Our Coast Guard fights during war time and protects everyone in this country ALL the time.
I proudly served as a Coastie in the late eighties and my husband is a retired Chief.
I am actually more proud of the CG knowing they kicked the coward deserter out on his sorry butt.
So was he helping the Taliban set up a naval operation?
Hmmmn.
Would the Coast Guard accept somebody thrown out of the Army?
Escape?
“If even the Coast Guard won’t take you..you are pretty useless.”

You owe every Coastie on FreeRepublic an apology. I don’t care if you were joking or not.
The Legion is a small elite force of volunteers from around the globe, they have their choice of high quality men.
Their acceptance rate into training seems to be about 1 out of ten.
But did he serve with honor & distinction in the USCG? Paging Susan Rice...
I want to know what was his reenlistment code? When I would process out RE-4s in the USCG I would tell them to not even think about trying to join the Army. They would take rats or snakes before they would take an RE-4. Back when I was in the CG they only took HS diplomas, no GEDs. AVSABs had to be high too.
“Probably tossed him out because he kept jumping ship and swimming away” See Comment #7
No Way! If you jump off a CG ship you don’t swim ashore you walk to shore. (That’s why all CG types are 6 foot tall!)
