Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army sergeant captured in Afghanistan and held for nearly five years before being traded for five top Taliban operatives, was discharged from the Coast Guard before he joined the Army, Fox News confirmed.
An Army spokesman did not confirm reports that Bergdahl's discharge was due to psychological reasons or elaborate on the circumstances leading to his ouster in 2006.
"We did confirm that Bergdahl was administratively discharged from the USCG prior to his enlistment to the U.S. Army, the spokesman said.

The Coast Guard IS the military too!!! In times of peace they operate under the Dept of Homeland Security. In times of war they operate as part of the US Navy.

how he could have been tossed from any branch of the service and then re enlist in another without a “recommendation” from highly situated “undisclosed sources” escapes me

I remember saying good riddance to an FN (E-3) at at a Coast Guard unit where his Lead Petty Officer had marked him too low to reenlist. Low and behold 89 days later he reenlisted at a Coast Guard recruiter an got the shore station he wanted to boot. Turns out the higher ups raised his marks so they wouldn't have to do the required extra paperwork because he was getting out anyway. If it's not documented, it didn't happen and services don't always, heck hardly at all, share all the paperwork. If Bowe’s DD-214 said Admin under honorable conditions I doubt an Army recruiter would get any additional info.

The U.S Coast Gurd has saved more lives than any other branch, they are also the oldest branch. Turn off your videogames because there is more to life than shooting people, obviously you cant compare them to the army, its like comparing a police officer to a firefighter. You are very immature, no coastie “tries” to act like a soldier, they save lives directly even though they are putting their own lives in danger. Nobody agrees with you kid, not even the soldiers themselves. It is an honor to be in the Coat Guard. By the way kid most people in the military have non combat roles, thats right dont let your video games fool you.

I'm not convinced they were very picky back then. I have read that a substantial number of recruits required waivers to get in.

Yeah, if he was too much of a misfit to get along in the CG, imagine him in the Army in a combat zone.

The WH is laughing at all of us U.S. citizens over the deal. Obama got exactly what he wanted. A way to empty GITMO.(and get away with it)

The meme in the media has been that Bergdahls’ platoon mates were psychologically unstable.
Wouldn't it be rich if it now comes out that Bergdahl himself has been diagnosed with mental illness

Makes you wonder who got Bergdahl in the Army, and why? If he left the Coast Guard in 2006, what year did he get in Army?
There is nothing about this case that passes the smell test? Almost like the man elected to the WH.
