RICHMOND, Va. Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night in the most shocking primary defeat since Republicans took the House in 2010.
The conservative challengers victory halts one of the most meteoric rises in national politics, and illustrates the strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantors Richmond-area district. Cantor is the second House incumbent to lose this primary season Texas GOP incumbent Ralph Hall was defeated by a tea-party backed challenger at the end of May.
Cantors defeat not only reorders Virginia politics, where Cantor was the highest-ranking Republican, but it completely throws the House Republican leadership into flux. Cantor, 51, was long seen as the next speaker of the House after John Boehner retires.

“Unfortunately Hume made an excellent point that Graham won big and he had his name on the bill for amnesty and he still won! So you know graham is going to push for it hard!!”
Perhaps it escaped Hume’s omniscient attention that Linseed did not feature immigration as one of the selling points of his reelection campaign. Wonder why that would be, Brit, you fraud?
I understood that the dems didn't run anyone.

There is no democrat candidate to vote for so it is possible that some democrats came out to vote for Brat, but I believe republicans got fed up with Cantor’s nonsense. The threats, his support for amnesty, and the lying about himself and Brat, may have been a bit too much for republicans in the district to stand. They sent Cantor a message — no more of this.
It would help if we had one single Jew.
Not good enough.
Britt Hume wasn’t just being disingenuous he was lying. He is trying to not let the cat out of the bag that the entire GOP-E is for amnesty. He doesn’t want the results from tonight to snowball for the rest of the primaries. Just when he thought the GOP-E had the party under control, now this unlikely turn of events. I love it!!!!!!!
Please. Give me a break. this is a very heavily republican district. Can you say House-member-elect Brat. Give it a rest. He has won the general election!!!!!
He bought into the lie of RINOism. Even McCain once had some honor. Then he decided that lesser evil was acceptable.
History shows it. He moved left to be ‘pragmatic’. And here we are today with millions of illegals invading.
Brit Hume is out of touch. He also gave all the credit for Cantor’s loss to talk radio. Look, no doubt Mark Levin and Laura Ingraham are great assets, but the bottom line is that people are fed up. THAT is behind tonight’s results.
So you are a Cantor supporter, this conservative victory must be a big shocker to you.
Cantor was bought and paid for by the BIG Lobbyist/Amnesty $$.
He is the face of the establishment which is why i used to hate that show called the “Beltway Boys” Mort Kondrake and that cheshire faced RINO dope that was an editor to National Review... Bill Kristal IIRC. RINOs need to go once and for all.
He also said these were different elections. Much smaller district. Here is one for you. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever in the history of the country has a House majority leader ever, ever, ever been defeated in a primary. So there. Stuff that in your Lindsey Graham!!!!
ONE LESS RINO IN THE WALL!
FNC talking head analysis pointed out that Obammy will go full steam ahead on signing an EO for amnesty now that the Cantor defeat means that amnesty legislation is effectively off the table.
No worries. Been following because it’s VA. I thought it would be closer than what was expected. Didn’t see this blowout coming. The local tea parties and the Brat campaign fought a helluva fight.
Perhaps. But since I and many other Christians have said more in public in support of Israel than that particular Jew, I think if one has to play identity politics at all, it should be with someone worth doing it with.
We fall all over trying to elect a few black or Hispanics, but we shouldn’t have a token Jew?
“It would help if we had one single Jew.”
I guess I just don’t think that way. I would never vote for or against somebody on that basis and I come from Catholic Boston where I been told to “vote for your own.”
I don’t play that game. The fact that Cantor is “a Jewish republican” may make some people all excited, but Jew or not, he deserved defeat for his actions, and shouldn’t be shielded because of his religion, his race, his sex, or anything else.
