RICHMOND, Va. Dave Brat, a local economics professor, toppled House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on Tuesday night in the most shocking primary defeat since Republicans took the House in 2010.
The conservative challengers victory halts one of the most meteoric rises in national politics, and illustrates the strong anti-incumbent fever that has taken over Cantors Richmond-area district. Cantor is the second House incumbent to lose this primary season Texas GOP incumbent Ralph Hall was defeated by a tea-party backed challenger at the end of May.
Cantors defeat not only reorders Virginia politics, where Cantor was the highest-ranking Republican, but it completely throws the House Republican leadership into flux. Cantor, 51, was long seen as the next speaker of the House after John Boehner retires.

I’m pulling for Mitch to be ditched.
I absolutely love this post.
The writers of the Constitution did not favor professional politicians running government. They are singing in their graves tonight for Brat’s victory and the fact he is not a lawyer.
“We stopped the amnesty push when Bush was President. We can do it again.”
I think we just did! I’d love to see Steve King take to the floor of the House TOMORROW and give them hell! They all need to be kicked while they’re down. God knows they do it to us!
Hell, yeah!
Oldplayer
Brat spent $200,000 vs Cantor’s $5.4 million.
Damn right.
Well, what I heard is them saying that Murkowsky was a special case because of who her opponent was and the fact that she had a well-known name. Unless I missed it the FNC panel didn’t give Cantor any chance of winning a write-in, and said that given the political lean, Brat would likely beat the Democrat.
Must make for some tension in the faculty lounge however...
Hey business leaders and Chamber of Commerce!!! Don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Better find better ways to fill your manual labor jobs (better pay, force government to reduce welfare and disability fraud etc.).
Whoa now Norm.
Cantor may try to go scorched earth.
What GOP rep will now want to stick their neck out?
Only ones that already have a lobbying job lined up.
According to Bret Baer just now, the answer is NO...until now.
Yes, but does this become a multiple front "war" that the E-GOP can't win. I.E. We have Sasse, Ernst, TW Shannon that the maybe the E-GOP i.e. Rove, Haley Barbour, etc etc can't defend against all of these or try to destroy them all.
These fat-boys better realize they are gonna have to negotiate with the Tea-Party Faction in the Senate as Cruz and Company may get massive reinforcements.
It sucks to be Rove and Company right about now..
It may suck to be McConnell next January if he doesn't loose, and that isn't out of the question...
But they keep pushing the idea, or at least Megyn does. But you miss the point about Alaska V Virginia. Alaska is a weird outlier state .stuff can happen in Alaksa that can’t happen anywhere else.
Thats all of them.
What are the number for his race? Fox isn’t showing any other races numbers which is frustrating.
He’s at 59.4% right now. He has 69,000 votes. Not sure how much left.
60Gunner, are you still writing any stories about your adventures out West?
When’s the next installment?
The Cantor write-in talk is offensive! Its clearly a message to Cantor saying well help you keep this seat like Lisa Murkowski did.

Yep, that's what I am worried about, something will happen we will once again be screwed....ever since 2008 is why I am pessimistic.....
Lol, yeah it's just some disease directed at random incumbents.
